- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2018It feels even more comfortable than the first generation. Developer options are easily activated by clicking the Nook icon in the About menu of the options so you can load apps and such on it. As no pictures of the back of it exist anywhere, I will say that the indentation at the back of it is gone. The front plastic edges are no longer sharp and uncomfortable and it is easier to hold. all surfaces are rounded and comfortable on the skin It is an improvement.
Pros
High pixel density and I can see the difference from the first generation of the device
Drastically improved light bleeding from the top.
The brightness slider works better. It used to go from 0% brightness to 80% brightness if you moved the slider 1/4 of the way. Now, The slider is more representative of the illumination amount.
I put a bunch of .epub files on it and they were ready to be read immediately.
The dictionary search function is now better. Pressing and holding a word gives you the definition straight away. Before, you had to press and hold, and select the option to get the word definition which was a very unnecessary extra click.
Get it.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2018I have two other Nook books. My oldest is the NookColor. I really love it
The second is a Nook reader. It is okay, but would not recommend it. Ordered the NookGlowLight and it is the only one I use. It is compact and easy to use. You can turn the page forward of back with either hand. It is also much lights than the others
Fits easily into my small purse.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2019This is my second one. My first one was from when they first came out.
It just died a few months ago. It wasn't fancy, and didn't have the glow light feature, but I was lost without it.
I've been an avid reader my whole life, and was so delighted when the Nook was invented. With my worsening eyesight I can read in bed, without my glasses, by adjusting the font size. Also it is so much easier to hold than a book, due to my arthritis.
What can I say, other than I love it!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2018I did not realize how well designed this was until I tried the Kindle Voyage. Wow is it a different experience! The Voyage is actually painful to hold for longer than a few minutes unless you use both hands (no wonder the case is essentially a kick stand). So, for all the software short falls, this absolutely wins for ergonomics and hardware. I get why the bezel is so large now as well: If you make it any smaller you can't hold the device one handed.
The only two kindle features I miss are being able to look up words in a foreign language and being able to organize things into Collections (the "my shelves" feature doesn't really work) so it loses a star for those. However, as both of these are software not hardware issues I'm sure someone will fix them sooner or later.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2018ive had the first generation Nook for years. B&N recently announced they are discontinuing support for it, but that really didnt bother me as i side load. My brother got this and once i saw it i knew it was time to upgrade! Love the backlight and its still e-ink not a LCD so much easier on my eyes. the night mode is awesome shifting the color to an amber so it doesnt have as much impact on my sleep.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2020My wife has been a solid Nook supporter forever, and so I ordered the Nook GlowLight 3 for her for Christmas. It started out working as it should, and within a month, we were unable to download books properly - both via B&N and the public library. Any time a book was downloaded it would say it was there, and then it would just disappear from the library during reading. We contacted B&N, and Adobe and tried to get it fixed, and for a week the workarounds were fine.... until the issue kept happening any time we tried to download a book and each time we'd have to erase and deregister the device to get it back up and running - super irritating. We contacted the seller to return, and have yet to hear back from them. We've contacted Amazon to get a return several times, and because the seller didn't respond to me within the return period, I'm basically stuck with a $120 paperweight. This thing sucks, and we're over Nook at this point.... we'll be moving on.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2020I love books and have had two older nook tablets that were very glitchy. This is perfect for reading, no glitches, fast downloads. The only downside is not being able to side load books that I own that aren't book ebooks.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2020Purchase the protection plan. this is my 3rd NOOK. I dropped the others after the warranty expired and since I had over 300 books on my nook I needed to replace it. The new NOOK has protection on the edges so hopefully this will protect it should I drop it. However, I have the protection plan
