Customers like the sound quality of the musical instrument amplifier. They say it has a great clean tone and classic Marshall tube overdrive. It is loud even on low power settings, with a balance of guitar volume, channel volume, and master volume. Best Tube Amp For Under $1000
Great clean tone, classic Marshall tube overdrive. Sounds great with single coil, humbucker and p90 pick-up guitars. The FX loop is perfect to separate any timing pedals (echo, delay, reverb, chorus, phaser, volume, etc.) from drive pedals (overdrive, boost, compression and chromatic pedals). The foot switch that comes with the amp switches from clean to overdrive and the other switch turns on and off the FX loop. There are secondary (channel A/B) clean and overdrive settings on the amp and would require an upgraded foot switch to operate. I wish the upgraded pedal came with the amp to operate all of the amps feature but considering the overall great cost for this amp, I’m not going to complain.

Fantastic sound and tone right out of the box. I haven't had a chance to tweak it yet, but I have played with the 2 overdrives on each channel.

First off, this amp is LOUD, and wants to be turned up. The louder it goes, the better it sounds.

You CAN get a crystal clean tone, but you have to drop the gain to almost non-existent in order to do so. The overdrive, crunch, and rock tones are fantastic, so you likely won't need a pedal there unless you are looking to shape your tone more. The metal tone is solid, but I think it would really benefit from a good distortion pedal.

However, all of the above comments are after spending about 15 minutes with the amp, and leaving the EQ settings all at 12 o'clock, so I'm sure much better sounds can be tweaked out of this thing.

I went back and forth on the 5, 20, and 40 watt models but ultimately settled on this one because of the higher-end speaker and tubes.

If you can feed it a little volume without the neighbors showing up with pitchforks, I would definitely pick this amp up if you're debating it.

Amp arrived on time, and what looks to be brand new; something I haven't always seen lately. Thumbs up to Marshall, and thumbs up to the seller on this one. I couldn't be happier with my first Marshall.

I have two of these amps that I run through an AB/Y splitter. These are much louder than you would expect from a 40w amp. Gorgeous tone as expected from Marshall, and with some tweaking, can get crunchy and heavy. I've played everything from a Les Paul, SG, Snakebyte, PRS, and Strats through them and have not been disappointed. Clean or distorted, these are well worth the money.

Had it for a few weeks and love it. Had Peavey Classic 30 but couldn’t get the sounds I wanted at low volume so traded it in and bought the dsl40cr. With a balance of guitar volume, channel volume, and master volume I play in one room in my house and don’t bother anyone else in other rooms. It’s overkill with 12” speaker, big, and heavy for at home use but I love the sound with and without pedals.

The first surprise I got with this amp is the power coming out of a 40W box. I honestly wonder why I would ever need a 100W amp. Volume and tone is incredible. The reason for dropping the rating buy one star is twofold. And they are not big issues. First, I'm disappointed with the Reverb but, I knew that before making the purchase so my expectations were already set lower. Second, Marshall should have stepped up and provided a better pedal to switch across more channels. With the current pedal you have the choice of two channels which is a little lame. But, overall, this is a quality amp delivering (in my opinion) the best quality tube sound.

Didn’t work out of the box and customer service wouldn’t replace it. Made me re-package and take it to a store, and now it is $60 more than I bought it for. Save yourself the trouble and buy it from a store, otherwise you’ll spend hours on the phone with Amazon customer service pleading with them to do the bare minimum.

This amp sounds amazing. Worth every penny in my opinion. Bought a Marshall Code 50 a month back for 250 and well...... Ya get what ya pay for because this amp was about 500 more and it's like night and day in regards to sound. The code wasn't bad just very complicated and way to many digital pre sets.
