Cumbersome to carry, but a blast to play.

Cumbersome to carry, but a blast to play.
When the speakers arrived, it came in a huge box. I was not expecting it to be this big!I had watched youtube videos as well as read several reviews both in this site and others before making my purchase. With mixed reviews I was skeptical myself as to whether it was worth the steep $400 price tag.Luckily I got mine in prime condition as it sounded just fine. I bought it with the intention to replace the old speakers I have attached to my commercial grade computer monitor, which it does fantastically due to its sheer volume.Being in an apartment complex, I can barely play this beyond 20% volume with my phone playing at max before it gets too loud and starts to bother the neighbors. The "Beast" mode of the speakers do it justice as the bass gets a considerable upgrade, though I have not been able to fully test it at its max volume yet due to space constraints and slowly warming the speakers up so that It wont overwhelm it.Unfortunate for those who got a bad unit, but as for my personal experience, the speakers are just fine. Though I have read reviews where they have only had the speakers for about 2 weeks before problems arise so hopefully the speakers hold up beyond that. Otherwise a happy purchase on my endI'll update the review if anything note worthy comes.*Update July 9th 2019*Okay so I know it's been awhile since I left this review so I'll follow up on some of the concerns buyers have.So in my experience, the speaker still plays loud and proud with no issues whatsoever. No sound segregation, no battery life drain issues, no connectivity issues, etc.I've been bringing it to my work every week to play as "me and the boys" finish our closing shift. It really helps us pass the time and rock out as we work. So it definitely satisfies those who look for loud sound. At max volume, the speaker covers the entirety of our store so no matter where we are in there, we can hear the sound loud and clear.I had no issues at all with it turning off in the middle of operation unless I forgot to charge it like I did once.If I had to bring up one issue and this is more of a personal peeve is that I wish it had either wheels to pull it around with or built in straps to carry on your back because as convenient as the handles are, depending on how big you are, it makes it either awkward to carry or just becomes tiring to carryOverall I had no negative issues with the speakers whatsoever.

I bought this speaker after doing some research to see which one would be best to use at my wedding. We are trying to keep costs down by not hiring a DJ and we also wanted something for the family gatherings and parties held every year.
The sound surpassed what I was expecting. The sound quality sounds like something you would get out of a speaker for twice the cost. We tested it quietly indoors and at 50% outdoors and this thing is LOUD. At only 50% the speaker could be heard clearly from over 200 feet away in an open area. At the quietest setting indoors the speaker filled the room with music.
The lights on it are clear even during the day. At night, the light show adds an extra element to any party. The strobe lights on the speaker are also a nice addition. The light equalizer is a little sensitive but works better than I expected. Most equalizers I've seen barely pick up on certain songs, however, this one picked up every little beat no matter what the song.
Something unique about this speaker is how it can sense when it is standing up or laying down. There is a change in sound from this. If playing for a party or event I suggest testing out a few songs at both orientations prior to see which one is better for you.
The only reason I do not give it 5 stars among the sound quality is that there is a range where the bass on the speaker is a little weak. Light and deep basses work amazing but there is a small range in the middle that the speaker struggles on. I'm actually surprised that is my only complaint. Otherwise, this speaker is perfect.
I will definitely be buying another one soon to pair with for my wedding. Can't wait for the next family pontoon trip to bring this speaker out on the water.

Great sounding speakers with quite the bass punch. It is not as heavy as you think it is and you should have no problem lugging it around the park or beach. I have had to walk miles carrying this unit and it is quite awkward to hold so the best way I experienced carrying it is by the two handles on the sides with your arms fully extended. You will get tired of trying to be cool and hold it like a boombox on your shoulders.

Battery life is average at best. If you full-on blast your music on beast mode with heavy bass and strobe lights flashing for about 4-5 hours, the battery life should be close to low by now. If you turn off the lights and beast mode but still blasting music it should extend battery life about 20% longer. And if you're just casually listening to soft not-so-bass-heavy music with volume at 50-75% with no lights and beast mode it should last you around 12 hours.

My only complaint is the wireless bluetooth distance signal. Its either Altec Lansing didn't equip the XPEDITION 8 with a decent enough bluetooth receiver, or there is some internal component design flaw that causes a signal obstruction for the bluetooth audio. The audio starts to cuts out at about 10-15 feet away, I've had cheaper $100 bluetooth speakers that didn't start to cut out until 40-50 feet away. And considering that this unit is WELL on the more expensive side and its marketed to have great outdoor withstanding abilities, you WOULD expect it to at LEAST be featured with a decent enough bluetooth audio signal distance.

All in all I still love this speaker, but I just hope Altec Lansing will fix the wireless signal issue for future models.

What i liked was the awesomeness of it, the sound how loud it gets.
And its not that heavy surprisingly
But being in another counrty........ watch out your warranty does not work.
I took the risk and hoped that it was going to be good but i lost out.
When i got it, it was and still is awesome.
It works but it wont charge. So i cant take it anywhere unless its hooked up to power
