Holly Bargo is a pseudonym for the author, but she really did exist. The original Holly was an elegant and temperamental Appaloosa mare with loads of character. That Holly has long since crossed the Rainbow Bridge and is remembered fondly.

The author herself really does exist, too. Unlike many authors, Holly writes her own books; she doesn't hire ghostwriters. Holly lives in southwest Ohio on a small hobby farm with her husband and a small menagerie of furred and feathered beasties.

I was not thrilled with this book. In fact, I had to force myself to continue reading it several times. It started out really good, but completely different from book one. It quickly turned into just anguished, drawn out version of the first book. This time prior abuse was the barrier to the bonding, instead of the heroine's previous human marriage, and abduction. It had so many spots of potential, like the battles between the invading horde and the Refstofae. The problem was, it kept interrupting the story to make these little feminist excursions, that did nothing to add to the story, and mimicked the first book. This was a good idea gone wrong, and a true disappointment.

Once again I am blown away by this author’s ability to create worlds and characters that captivate and haunt in equal parts. This in the second book in this series, and as with the first, I found myself instantly drawn into the story.

This one looks at different characters, and takes yet another look at this beautiful world, and the magical creatures that live there. A Fae imprisioned, forced to rely on another unknown prisoner. Yet when their fate turns, he finds that he cannot leave the female, a witchbreed, his cell-mate, who is dying.

I loved meeting Falco and Calista in this story, and loved how even after reading the first book, I felt like I was seeing this world as in once again for the first time with these new characters. This world is so vast and well thought-out, I can see this book being one that would speak to many readers. I first started this series because of the Fae/fantasy elements, but have quickly added it to one of my favorite series!

The romance and fantasy are both strong elements in this book, but it’s also full of rich world-building and complex characters that go beyond!

This is book 2 of this 3book series... Falco and Calista are being held in prison. The prison is short on space when she is dumped into his cell... Finally getting a look at Clalists, Falco, is surprised at what he sees.. not only at her misused body but that she is Fae.. taking what he needs from her to help in his Escape. He promises to come back for her... When he does he finds her closer to death than when he left... He takes her to the unicorns to save her... Calista is witchbreed and has serve one master to another in her short life before she was thrown into this prison, now her life is changed...

As in book one you are thrown into a World of Magic filled with unicorns, dragons and their Riders, and houses that are alive... I think I enjoyed this book more than book 1. By the end of this book and all it's twist and turns. I noticed I was holding my breath because of its fast pace.. my hands cramped because I was holding my tablet so hard...

A world to get lost in

As a full-time editor I work on dozens and dozens of manuscripts a year and have edited several books by this author. Her writing never disappoints! I absolutely love the worlds she creates whether they be the fantastical realm of the fae (some of whom are dragon riders...a fact I lap up like a kitten does milk) or a 21st century underground backstory like the Russian mob.

This book takes the reader on a journey that begins with the Captain of the Fae army becoming indebted with his life to a witchbreed woman who eventually steals his heart and....well, I don't want to spoil the story. If you have a few bucks, buy this book. You won't be sorry. If you don't have a few bucks, forego a cup of joe for a day or two and buy this book. You'll never look back.

I LOVE the swifts and that the castle is sentient! :)

A mythical and magical world!

Holly Bargo's skills in mythical world building and believable dialogue drive this story about a fae and witchbreed from very different backgrounds who come together under difficult circumstances and have to reconcile their pasts with the present they must now share. While Falco and Calista are interesting and engaging characters in their own right, my favorite character in this book was the voice of the keep. I like how the books in this series can stand on their own and look forward to reading both of the other volumes set in this world!

What I loved most was the setting for this novel. This author does an excellent job with descriptions and making me easily feel connected to the world. It is beautiful and I also had a blast learning more about this character!! A good sequel for this series :)
