Most Edison-base LED incandescent replacement bulbs, including globe-shaped ones like this, have an opaque white section at their bases to house power supply electronics. These don't; the actual LEDs are very close to the screw base and the entire globe is illuminated by them, resulting in even light in all directions due to the envelope's diffusion. Their color temperature is very close to a 40W incandescent's, and the high CRI claim is justified.
The only possible negative is what I'd call "guaranteed-frustration packaging." It requires quite a bit of manhandling to open and, after doing so, the lamination of its plastic and cardboard pieces renders them non-recyclable. Feit can do better!
