This is a message in a bottle for addicts struggling to hang on…..
It’s never too late to change your path. After 22 years clean and sober I relapsed, and getting back into rehab turned out to be the easy part. Staying in recovery was the challenge. A year later I was on the precipice of yet another catastrophic relapse, and what follows is my solution. As counterintuitive as my solution appeared, it worked. I was able to halt the freefall before oblivion came to greet me, and in the process I also appear to have revolutionized my entire program of recovery.
Three years later my program is still working for me, and whilst I’m still working on refining my sobriety, I have calmed the continual cravings and urges I’ve dealt with most of my adult life. I’m now able to live my life with enthusiasm and contentment, and without the continual fear of a relapse.
My story has been over 3 decades in the making, and over two years in various stages of draft. Nonetheless, it seems like I see something in the news every day about the global opiate pandemic. It’s also a frequent occurrence in Alcoholics Anonymous to hear of another death or relapse. The issues people struggle with in AA meetings seem to be the same week after week, but this isn’t a long drawn out drunk-a-log. This is a tale of success, and what that moment has become.
Fortunately for me, I feel I solved my basic conundrum three years ago. The “war on drugs” seems to have been lost, and yet, here I am, a survivor. I know now that as long as I breathe, I have a chance. On the one hand, there is the status quo, and on the other hand is the unknown. Here is my story. Hopefully, the story of my solution will inspire you to find your own path…..

Furthermore, knowing the kind of hole alcoholism condemns one to, he has written this book as a source of inspiration and a show of unity with those who find no way out of the situation. Together with his friend at AA (a "unicorn"), it is their earnest hope that no life should be lost because of the situation. Not only is the book short, but it also flows easily as the words are uncomplicated.
I recommend it to all who suffer from alcoholism or know a friend who does.
I like that the author presents one route to recovery without pushing it on to everyone else. While unconventional, this method seems to have worked really well for the author.
I recommend this book for anyone looking for a different path to recovery from addiction.
I have personally seen marijuana used effectively to lower the number and intensity of seizures in a patient that I took care of when I worked as a home care nurse. The patient was on numerous powerful pharmacological medications to control his frequent seizures. These medications made him extremely drowsy and he slept most of the time. When marijuana oil was introduced, he was able to wean off of all but two of these medications, was much more alert, and his seizures were well controlled.
I relate this anecdote because the author discusses the ways in which the brain is altered by the use of alcohol and opiates. Marijuana, when used as the author outlines, can help balance out these alterations in the brain and give the addict a fighting chance at staying clean. The book is short and gets direct to the point. I recommend it to anyone who is fighting addiction themselves or who hopes to help a loved one fighting addiction.
