Do you yearn to find your true mental, physical and emotional capacity in life? Eric Logan did, and he searched for an event that would challenge every fiber of his being and reveal his true character and capability. He found it in Kokoro, a 52 hour extreme fitness event originally designed for Navy SEAL and other special operator candidates. Eric signed up and attacked the event the year he turned 50.

Kokoro is the brainchild of Mark Divine, Founder and CEO of Unbeatable Mind and SEALFIT, author of Way of the SEAL and Unbeatable Mind and Commander (Ret), US Navy SEALS. Kokoro is a 52 hour physical, mental and emotional team endurance event modeled after the SEAL's Hell Week. Eric trained at Commander Divine's CrossFit affiliate, US Crossfit, for 5 years before attempting Kokoro. Kokoro participants have historically had a 30% success rate. Kokoro, and the broader SEALFIT program, integrate physical, mental, emotional, intuitional and awareness training to develop elite-level warriors, leaders and teams.

Eric is the Chief Operating Officer of COBRA PUMA Golf in Carlsbad, California, and he desired to enter the event and gain as much insight as possible about his capacity as an athlete, a leader, a husband and a father. Eric's teammates at Kokoro 42 (the 42nd iteration of the event) included a 2 time Golden Gloves boxing champion, a 7 time Spartan Race champion, an ultramarathon racer and a professional hockey player, so he had his work cut out for him, attempting to keep up with his teammates and add value to the team. While he wasn't the fittest athlete that toed the line for the start of Kokoro 42 in April, 2016, he had a clear and strong "Why" for attempting the event and a drive that would keep him from quitting.

Come walk beside Eric and learn some of the lessons that he learned during Kokoro 42:

• How to face your fears
• How to face uncertainty
• How your faith can support you and deliver you from life’s darkest moments
• How to deal with life’s roller coaster—managing the inevitable ups and downs without getting too high or low
• How to learn your strengths and use them daily for the benefit of you and others
• How to learn your weaknesses, how to work around them and hopefully, how to turn them into strengths
• How to be helpful in all situations
• How to be an encouragement to others
• How to find close life partners (Swim Buddies) who challenge and encourage you
• How to operate well as a member of a team, with your family, your workmates, your athletic event teammates
• Finally, and most importantly, how to learn that your capacity for life, love and work is so much bigger than you ever imagined

2 years ago, I was part of Eric's class Kokoro42 and one of the 13 finishers. Eric's details, advice and humor on what we experienced as a team for over 50 hours and how it changed him from the inside out will inspire you. I cried and laughed all over again. I highly recommended this book for anyone looking to be motivated.

Wow! What a riveting story. This book told me more about myself than it did about the author, and he did all the work! It is a captivating story that makes you feel like you are right there with Eric the whole time, while letting you into his mind to understand how and why he took on something as crazy as Kokoro. For most of us who will never attempt anything remotely like Kokoro, this book still has invaluable lessons and insights from which all of us can benefit. My overarching takeaway from this book is the word, and the greater concept of, “Why”. Not the question “Why?”, but the statement “Why.” Read the book and I’m certain you will never look at the question vs. the statement the same again. I now have a deep appreciation of the value and importance of contemplating, ruminating, and understanding the Why behind my actions. I could never do what Eric did. But seeing how his “Why” was all the motivation he needed to complete the Kokoro challenge was eye-opening for me. Be prepared to be entertained, captivated, motivated, and energized by this amazing journey of achievement that Eric takes you on.

This is a fantastic inspirational book that I fully enjoyed even though I will NEVER attempt a Kokoro. Eric has a charming sense of humor that was clearly part of the secret of completing the endurance test. The tips he includes and the questions he asks are applicable to life far beyond the world of fitness and Navy Seals. Also, I found it deeply revealing that he is afraid of clowns. I thought the title referred to the instructors, but clearly he has a deep respect for them as well as all people in his life. It's particularly heart-warming to see his profound love and respect for his daughters Winnie and Sigourney, his wife Dai and all the women in his life, particularly Patty "Boom Boom" Alcivar. Reminds me that fifty may just barely be half of this one precious life we live. Way to live it to the FULLEST, old man!

When Eric Logan turned Fifty, he wanted to be challenged by a "crucible" event. What he chose was a grueling 52 hour gauntlet of body and spirit breaking exercises and activities designed to test world class navy seal candidates half his age. Not only did Eric survive the ordeal, he came out the end a better man with new insights on his life. Mr. Logan takes us along for the ride, and along the way passes on what he learned, and how the lessons can be applied to your life. Although not a writer by trade, the book is written extremely well and is a triumph in of itself. Read the book, and realize that with dedication , hard work, perseverance, mixed in with a bit of heart any goal can be achieved.

The mental and physical journey the author prepared for and then finished with the help of his love of his family and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was motivational for me to put more effort into maintaining my own faith and lifestyle.

Eric catalogs his personal triumph over mental, physical and spiritual fatigue through the grueling 52 hour SEALFIT Kokoro (Japanese for heart) crucible program designed around the Navy SEAL Hell Week program. The book delivers an "edge of your seat" depiction of the entire 52 hours of absolutely exhaustive physical and mental activity that eventually bonds individuals into a cohesive team while each participant remains focused on their personal reason (or Why) for being in the program which eventually unleashes each of their previously unknown real inner strength. Eric lightens the load throughout with his added comical commentary. It is amazing what inner strength we each possess! I actually felt Eric's exhaustive pain and delirium as I read the book along with the ecstasy of the completion. This book will show you that you have much more capability than you can even imagine and how focus, strength and faith can allow you to overcome all of your fears. Hooyah!!!

I really loved this book- it’s about so much more than just fitness! As someone who recently (at age 51) joined a gym for the first time ever, I definitely appreciated the fitness aspect- but even more, as a women on the brink of divorce- I was in awe of Mr Logan’s dedication to his ‘why’ and obvious dedication to his wife and family. SO refreshing to read about men who are actually searching for ways to strengthen and find new meaning in their marriages and roles as fathers. Don’t ‘live a life of regret’ - read this book!

Reading this book is like sitting down with a good friend over a beer and hearing a great story. Its a fun read even if you aren't interested in doing a 3 day endurance event. The lessons Eric learned by grinding through that weekend, and the lessons that he already knew but chrystalised for him during the event are applicable to every aspect of life, from athletics, to work, to family. Give it a read, and then pass it on to someone who is training for a 10k, or starting a new business, or about to get married.
