What is a SlideBelts brand ratchet belt? It's a leather belt that lets you freely adjust your belt size without the limitation of holes in the leather. In fact, there are no holes at all! A tab in the buckle catches on a row of notches sewn onto the underside of the leather, allowing for over 30 size options with 1/4" (6.35 mm) between adjustments. All SlideBelts come with a belt strap that can be trimmed to your exact waist size. The full length of one of our straps fits a 48" (122 cm) waist size. All buckles are completely removable and interchangeable with compatible SlideBelts products. Try SlideBelts out and see why there's no reason to poke holes in a perfectly good piece of leather.

The belt portion isn't all that bad. It's flimsy feeling, and it's kind of warped, but it still works fine so far.
I love the idea, and will continue to use the belt, but the quality of the actual buckle is kinda bad.
Lowering this to a 1 star. The 2nd clasp they sent me is also chipping away. Also the belt is now very oddly warped, and the black on teh belt has turned tan. The quality is horrible.
The 'Black Leather' belt hardly felt like real leather, it felt like premium cardboard and that's about as nicely as I can put it. The buckle looked and felt nice but I was fooled by its aesthetics. You can say the buckle was honeypotting me because I haven't had the belt for even a month and the buckle snapped in half. It tricked me into thinking that I wasn't paying so much for the quality of the belt but for the quality of the buckle. I've used plastic knives at picnics that were stronger than the belt buckle.
I thought the zip tie like feature of tightening the belt was a unique and cool concept. I also remember seeing the kickstarter page for this a while back right after it's funding ended. I'm glad they were successfully funded and were able to get their product out to the public. However, for $40 a belt, I was expecting it to be more durable and with higher quality. It was advertised as "Creating a belt that can handle the worst you can throw at it and look good doing it". I'm sending it back to hopefully get a refund.
The belt lasted almost exactly two years. The strap broke where it connects to the buckle. Another post here has a picture identical to what happened with mine -- the belt simply "snapped" in half right at that spot. I purchased a replacement belt (no buckle) for $20 here on Amazon, which arrived and feels the exact same as the original. I don't expect to get any more time out of this one than that one. Maybe the premium one is better? Either way, the belt was definitely showing its age along the edges by that point anyway, and had been downgraded to the belt I would wear when you couldn't see the belt anyway, so it was due for a replacement.
Anyway, a few days ago, the buckle itself broke. There are two little metal tabs that hold the two main pieces of the buckle together. One of these snapped off as I was tightening the belt. It is not repairable, but Slidebelts sells the buckles separately. Again, the buckle had started to show signs of age and was pretty scratched up, so I went ahead and ordered a new buckle, regretting that I didn't simply purchase a new belt when the previous one broke.
While these aren't incredibly expensive belts, they don't last nearly as long as any regular belt, and the leather doesn't feel anywhere near as nice. Based on the fact that both the belt and the buckle failed right at about 30 months, I would think that's the lifespan you can expect from the unit before failure occurs *somewhere*. I like the idea of the Slidebelt and the ability to set it at exactly the right tension is great, I'm not sure I'll be purchasing another once these components fail and will probably switch back to a regular belt.
Original review: Well, it looks nice, but it doesn't hold hold my pants up. The buckle lets the belt open spontaneously with any amount of pressure (even when I'm not wearing it), which sort of defeats the purpose of a belt. Total waste of money. The problem appears to be that the belt is much too thin for the buckle. There's a sizable gap behind the leather, which allows it to pop up and release instead of holding the belt shut. My son owns a similar belt made by a company that went on "Shark Tank." That one appears to actually work. Mad at myself for buying this one instead of that one.
