I thought I just needed a sharpener, but the ability to tighten/loosen and take apart my pocket knives for cleaning is also important.

This nifty tool really comes in handy for all you knife maintenance and it's so compact too!
You can carry this handy maintenance tool in you pocket and on a keychain and it comes with two types of knife sharpeners; ceramic and carbon, it has two star point bit heads that will tight up most bolts and screws on your newer style pocket knives, it has a bottle opener for your favorite beverages too, among other things...

This is a great little multitool made by CRKT to have around whenever you need it!

The T6 and T8 bits are an added bonus for me. Just the sharpener and ceramic honer alone make this a handy tool for me, and within moments put a good edge back on my knife. Haven't used the bottle opener yet but that's coming!
Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2018
I just received my CRKT Knife Maintenance tool and I really love it, but I can't give it 5 stars.

When I was first looking at this online, I thought this made so much sense and wondered why nobody else thought of this. It's lightweight, compact, has replaceable bits to fit the needs of which knife you carry, and has both carbide and ceramic sharpeners.

Now onto what stops this from being the perfect pocket sharpener/maintenance tool.
1. The opening for the sharpeners are too small for the kick of my knife (Spyderco Para 3), so I can't sharpen the entire blade.

2. The bits that the tool came with aren't the best quality; pretty sure they're black oxide. First time I used the T6 bit to take off my pocket clip, it nearly stripped the screws and the tip showed some ware.

3. Although the bits may be replaceable, the length of the bits that the tool is designed to accept is 1/8" shorter than a standard 1" bit, so you'll have to grind down the back of the bits you want to insert. I tried finding precision torx bits shorter than 1", but nobody makes them. This design choice makes no sense since they could have just made the tool 1/8" longer to allow it to accept standard bits.

4. Why the bottle opener? Almost everyone already has some sort of bottle opening keychain, why does this need a bottle opener too? I don't drink, so a bottle opener is the most useless tool in the world to me, but I can't hold that against it because that would just be nitpicky. Except that would be the case if the bottle opener didn't take away from the design of the tool. I wish they had just made the entire top a keychain loop instead of the bottle opener because they could have made it a prybar and the tool would have been more seamless. Instead of rubbing your finger along a smooth edge, you poke the pointed bottle opener after the short flat head/keychain bar, it's not sharp, but it would feel so much more satisfying and complete if the bottle opener wasn't there. I know this sounds dumb, but trust me, you'll want to fidget with this tool, and the bottle opener takes away from that.

Overall, it's still a great tool and I highly recommend it, but it could have been better.
