The hub is underpowered. Each port on this hub only provides 2 watts of power, so devices that require more than that will not work as effectively or at all. A USB 3.0 port should provide 4.5 watts of power.

Using this because our TCL Roku TV is not able to power a large (4TB) external drive.
We previously had a 500g hard drive connected directly to the tv and watched videos using the Roku Media Player app. That worked fine until we found we had the need for a larger storage hard drive.
I bought a 4tb drive to accommodate all our files, but Roku Media Player would not recognize it.
I Googled "hard drive not recognized?", and the most common problem seemed to be that the tv source could not power the drive and therefore needed a powered usb hub to provide enough power.
Hoping this would solve that problem, I ordered this.
Perfect solution.
Easy set up. Plug hub into an outlet, and the other end into the usb port of the tv. Plug hard drive into one of the powered ports on the hub.
Works perfectly.
Each port has it's own on-off button. There is a blue light at each port that indicates if the port is on or off, so it's visually easy to tell if there's power to a port.
Only one slight con that might be a problem, is that the buttons that turn each port of/off are pretty easily pushed.
Murphy's Law means you only find this out once you've settled down to watch a movie. I've solved this problem by just tucking the hub back behind the tv where it won't inadvertently get touched, but if you need to place it out in the open, just be aware and visually keep tabs on it.
* * Update Jan 2020 * * Since purchasing one of these, I have purchased 3 more to use with Roku products. The most recent is being used with a TV that is not a Roku TV. I purchased a Roku Ultra device and am using this powered USB hub to power an external drive and watch videos via the Roku Media Player app.
Nothing but happy with this product.

Compact little USB hub with individual switches per port and vertical orientation like I wanted. Problem is I ordered this to use with four 8bitdo Bluetooth adapters, and after plugging them in quickly realized my controllers no longer worked unless I was a foot or two away. Thinking the adapters were too close together I only plugged one in, and had the exact same issue. Switching to a different USB hub restored the normal 30+ foot range, so I can only assume this one was generating some kind of EMF that affected the 2.4ghz range.
