The Craftsman CMCD700C1 kit comes with a 700 series drill/driver, one lithium-ion battery (1.3ah), and a charger.
It feels well balanced in the hand, it weighs only 3lbs 8oz with battery and the motor is rated at 280 uwh of power.
Speeds are 0-400 in first gear and 0-1500 in second gear. There are plenty of clutch positions to allow the perfect setting for driving screws on any project. Also, there's a drill position to lock the clutch when you're drilling holes. The battery has an indicator with 3 LEDs so you can see how much charge remains at the touch of a button and a bright white LED illuminates your work when you squeeze the trigger.
The Craftsman did well at home maintenance tasks and was even capable of driving 3 inch deck screws into pressure treated lumber although it struggled a little as the screws reached full depth.
This drill/driver is very capable and would be a welcome addition to any homeowner's tool box and most people will be happy with it.
But the last few years have seen many improvements in cordless tools as well as lower prices. When comparing this Craftsman drill/driver to my DeWalt DCD777C2 it's clear the DeWalt is slightly better in almost every category.
The DeWalt is more compact (see photos), has a stronger, faster (brushless) motor with 340 uwh of power and 1750 RPM, comes with 2 batteries instead of one and includes a carry bag. As of this writing the Craftsman is 79 bucks and the DeWalt is 99 bucks.
This is not to take anything away from the Craftsman - it's a fine tool. It's just that at this point in the value wars, it's lagging behind a bit. But if you don't need a second battery or a carry bag, the Craftsman represents a nice $20 savings over the DeWalt.
