Disclaimer: I received a beta copy of this book prior to the official release.
This was, in my opinion, one of the strongest books in the series. We have some real character development for Yerin and Mercy here, as well as some important relationship development within the members of the group. We even get a little bit of story related to Orthos, which was a pleasant surprise.
This book does an excellent job of introducing new antagonists and building tension as Lindon and his cohorts confront them.
It also showcases one of the most interesting forms of character progression we've seen in the story to date - the requirements to ascend to the titular Underlord status. I won't spoil anything by describing the process, but I found it more compelling and satisfying than most of the previous forms of advancement.
Finally, the book does an awesome job of showcasing just how far Lindon and Yerin have come since the beginning of the story. We really see them coming into their own here, and it does a great job of setting up for even more of that in the next book.
Dross remains the best character, but no one should be surprised about that.
Overall, this was my favorite book in the recent history of the series, and probably one of the strongest in the series. I can't wait to see more.
