Review
"5 stars - Mrs Justiss constructed an incredibly wondrous slow-burn romance, with flawed and lively characters. I so enjoyed this brilliant tale of giving character a chance over appearance, that next year is far away to wait for the next story." – Elodie's Reading Corner
"Almost from the beginning, the air crackles with sexual tension... Ms. Justiss' prose is flawless, so evocative that every emotion permeates the narrative, subtly yet powerfully." – Fresh Fiction
"Julia Justiss delivers again... and the outcome is delightful." – All About Romance
"The Awakening of Miss Henley is a romantic and enjoyable read...." – Roses are Blue --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

About the author

I grew up near Annapolis, MD, a gem of colonial American architecture which from an early age inspired in me a fascination with history. After majoring in French and History in college, I worked as a business journalist before marrying a naval officer I met (where else?) at a Navy football game. That began a vagabond period of 12 moves in 15 years which included 2 year postings in Tunis, Tunisia and Oslo, Norway. After my husband left the service, we returned to his home in the Piney Woods of Northeast Texas where we built a reproduction Georgian house, raised our three children and adopted assorted dogs, cats, and transient livestock. We live there still on 24 beautiful acres of pine forest overlooking a small lake. Along with gardening, reading, and swimming, I love creating stories featuring strong heroines and fearless heroes!

How can I best describe this utterly delightful story? Once I began the first page, I was immersed into one of the best stories I have read this year. I could only admire Miss Emily Henley as she would not settle for less than a real marriage to someone she cared about. She was to the point of setting up her own household and luckily she had the funds, where she could pursue her true interest. Political concerns of restricting child labor and extending the vote to women and many more.
But she did enjoy her conversations with the handsome Lord Theo. Oh yes he was a libertine but their banter was so surprising and he did not want to get married anymore than she did! Little did she know his thoughts about her...
"There was something about her-some restless, passionate, driving force he sensed just beneath the surface calm-that called out to him, as compelling as physical beauty."
A slow journey of friendship and sparks of attraction that literally comes off of the pages. Julia Justiss has created such a memorable story with all the ingrediants that I adore in historical romance. I truly cannot wait for the next story in this series and know I will be revisiting this one again. Perfect.
It's one of those unlikely romances. A bluestocking, independent-minded heroine, interested in politics and altruistic endeavors, who is not pretty but, rather, known for her plainness. She does not want to lose her independence and her political and social leanings by marrying a man who will want to control her. Looking for love, you know, and an understanding mate. They don't seem to exist.
And then there's our hero. He's a second (or third or something?) son of a peer and spends his life in wine, women and other hedonistic activities. Always romantically/sexually involved with beautiful, experienced women. H and h develop an unlikely friendship because she tells it like it is, not stinting on her criticisms of how he is wasting his life.
So, yada, yada. I won't tell you what happens because, let's face it, you already know. If this book hadn't taken itself so seriously I might have enjoyed it more. Nothing witty or funny here. No really interesting dialogue. A plot that the reader has already figured out completely by the second page. Julia Justiss is an HR author who has been around a long time. Why hasn't she spent that time making her books more interesting to read?
of life and did not want to be dictated to by a man. If She did marry it had to be for Love.
Lord Theo Collington was the Second son so he had to make his own way. He was know
and sought after by many ladies . Married of single.
Emma and Lord Theo became friends and build a relationship of respect. Their Journey is a story
Plain girls only can Dream About. Friendship, Love, Passion, Trust, and Making your Own Choices.
Highly Recommend.
I did like the fact that Emma, the heroine, who expressed her desire to never marry . . . still expected to enjoy the passions of the flesh. Beyond risque at that time in history!
I was annoyed that the epilogue didn't stretch out the time to let the reader know if Emma and Theo had a baby boy or girl.
