Could this finally be the perfect kitty litter we’ve all dreamt of and hoped for? The end to the dust, the smell, the little hunks of clay scattered all over the house, the messy cleanup? And simply by using corn cobs??I was so excited to find this product I couldn’t wait to use it. Dealing with kitty litter ranks among the most dreaded tasks around the house and I don’t think the cats like it very much either.Oh, I’ve tried many of the so-called better ideas like shredded paper, wheat and even Hinoki wood. And I wasn’t impressed. And neither were the cats.Getting them to “go” on used corn cobs was promising to be a major challenge but we prepped carefully for it. For my part I washed and scrubbed the litter tray completely and took the opportunity to clean up any hint of the old litter. As far as the cats they prepped the best way they could … they ate a lot. But for them, that’s nothing new.They I sat back and waited for the inevitable. Sure enough the first one walked over and smelled her once familiar litter box. Hmmm. Would she turn her nose up at it even though at this point there was no turning back?First off, the company who makes this is one of the big names in self-cleaning litter boxes and I have a friend who thinks it’s the best thing she ever bought. So they have some experience in kitty litter that’s for sure. The litter pours cleaner than most clay-based products and does have a scent to it, which is unfortunate, but it’s not so strong once it is in the litter box and you’re a few feet away. My experience is cats like anything that smells outdoorsy (they smell my shoes all the time) and of course corn is plant based. That seems to be more natural to me than using clay. I think the cats agree.HINT: if your cat resists something new a trick that has always worked for me is to take a couple of spoonfuls of litter from the previously used batch, even include a tiny clump of droppings, so the cat smells something they are familiar with. They’ll hone in on that area and from that point on they are in familiar territory.I like this product. Is it the best ever made? I don’t know but it does what it’s supposed to and while the clumps aren’t as firm as with clay litter, they are still scoopable.
