While sleeping during a missions conference, David Bredeman awakened to a call for everyone to stand. He jumped to his feet, expecting to be dismissed. Having known David Bredeman since the mid-nineties, I knew in general his exploits and adventures along the Amazon tributaries in Peru. What a pleasure to team with him in writing this memoir, detailing the highs and lows of missionary life. He is a funny man with great stories of God's grace and life's peculiar circumstances. It's easy to picture this average man thrust into extraordinary peril on a daily basis. Whether dodging alligator-like caiman or being chased from his bathing spot by a panther, he will keep you laughing one minute and crying the next. He didn't do everything perfectly, but he showed a lot of heart throughout his journey. Come along for this heart-warming ride.

Good intentions are not enough!

Despite some interesting and even inspiring stories, this book is poorly organized, cluttered with disjointed random facts unrelated to the anecdote into which they are inserted. To add to the confusion, the authors mix verb tenses within paragraphs and even within sentences, confusing the literate reader. For a minister, whose stock in trade is communication, to communicate so poorly in his native language does not lend credibility to his story. And for the co-author, touted as an experienced author, to lend his name to the effort must be counterproductive to his own career. Good intentions are not enough!

Wish he'd been able to stay on in Peru another 17 years! Heartwarming, encouraging, and above all, honest. Or would be great for young missionaries to read before they hit the field, less the field hit them even harder. Loved the story of how he got his princess. She proved by her quiet wisdom over the years that she is indeed a child of the King.

When I first met David Bredeman, he was living in his brother and sister-in-law's home. His main goal in life was to find which restaurant sold the best pizza during his sister-in-law's vacation. Apparently, cooking for himself was not a priority. Then he answered God's call on his life in a most unusual way! This is a heart-warming story of the joys and struggles of missionary life and where God can lead a willing vessel. I highly recommend this book to anyone who ever wondered what missionary life is really like. Great job putting this book together David L. Winters.
