This app brings the popular website Youtube to the Firestick. It operates pretty much the same as it does on your computer's browser. You can either log into your Youtube account, where it can keep track of your browsing and make recommendations tailored to you. Or you can browse without logging in.

The video picture is high quality, but that has more to do with the television, Fire Stick and Internet connection, more than the app itself. With this app you have access to all of Youtube's videos. If you are subscribed to the premium Youtube, which I am not, you will have access to that content too. But there is no need for the premium access to use the app. It just you more content.

It is a free app and most of the content is free, which is becoming more rare with all of the premium streaming apps popping up. I like this app and that I am able to access Youtube content on my Firestick.

Always something to watch

I enjoy You Tube on several pieces of equipment, and this one is being written because I bought a 2021 Firestick, 3rd generation. Using the FS, it is easy to navigate the channels, and is intuitive in many ways of helping you find something you will like. The fact that it is free TV is always of value to me, and the wide assortment of programs is enticing. Some of the clips have ads, some don't, some are very short ads, some are longer, some you have to leave on, and some you can 'skip' at some point in their running. I don't use Facebook, but do enjoy using You Tube. It is private and I don't get bothered with people sending me pictures of their latest hamburger order at McDonalds each day. I like the fact that there are regular people who are often getting paid for their presentations: it is work to make a video and upload it, and I am able to learn things from their videos in many, many instances. I recommend it as both a fun place to visit and as an instruction manual, too!

It's about time the official YouTube app by Google has finally come to Amazon Fire TV. Before, we've had to use the web app hosted on either Firefox TV or Amazon Silk (Amazon's Chromium-based web browser). That was perfectly fine, however, as it never needed to be updated since it's a web app. The dedicated app is way better, however, and I'm so glad Amazon and Google, who have always been frienemies, have finally settled their differences to allow this. I hope more Google apps will come to Fire TV in the future for us Google users.
As far as the YouTube TV app goes, it's pretty good. If you've used YouTube TV on any other device, you know how it works. You can watch without an account, or login to your Google account using a web browser. You can also cast using the YouTube desktop web app or mobile app, that way you don't have to search for a specific video using the terrible TV keyboard, which is a nightmare to use. Alternatively, you can just click on suggested videos using the D-pad on yo remote or browse your personal watch history and playlists. I really don't recommend using the search feature unless you have an external Bluetooth or USB keyboard. Anyway, it's a really good streaming app. YouTube and Google has done very well at compressing videos for you to stream really quickly. It's way better than the Netflix streaming, which uses so much bandwidth. It's great that's it's now able to run natively on the Fire TV. For $65 per month, YouTubeTV is one of two most expensive television streaming services available. For the price, the user is receiving 100 channels and endless storage space. The company is able to offer the latter feature by saving selected movies and popular television series in cloud storage. For example, YOUTUBETV stores CASABLANCA in its cloud servers - a 2-hour film. Every subscriber is able to share and download that particular recorded film for the next nine months.

The title is deleted after expiration. In many cases, storage is longer. If the program or film is replayed, expiration is updated and reset with the newer version. For films like THE WIZARD OF OZ, GONE WITH THE WIND, STAR WARS, JURASSIC PARK, THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD and other popular titles that reappear every four to six months on various channels, they never expire. Every new showing resets the expiration for another nine months.

All other competing streaming services offer a limited personal cloud storage space - 50 to 200 hours are common. Every subscriber has his own personal "hard drive space" and is able to record anything and everything to the set limit. So if 50,000 subscribers wanted the 2-hour CASABLANCA film, the company has to reserve 100,000 hours of cloud storage space. To do the same thing, YOUTUBETV only needs 2 hours.

This shared strategy has its problems. Not everything can be recorded. For example, a PBS showing of CELTIC WOMAN - THE GREATEST JOURNEY can be viewed on scheduled time. However, the show can not be recorded - it is not popular enough.

I have yet to search for something and not find it. The one thing that is ANNOYING is when the app goes silent until I confirm I am still watching. I love to listen to old concerts while I clean the house. It is very inconvenient to stop what I'm doing so I can confirm my presence every 30 minutes! Also, I would love to be able to play one of the 6 or 8 hour bird videos for my cats when I leave the house. But since my two furrbabies cant confirm they are still watching, it cuts off. This is the only app that does this so its definitely not something in my settings. It seems like the more history I build with You Tube, the more frequently ads are played. There were always ads but not this many or this often . I realize they are trying to force customers into buying the premium version which I refuse to do. In that respect they get an "A" for effort. Something else that I find inconvenient is that there are no descriptions about anything. It's hard to find a movie I like by simply looking at titles with cover photos.
