Sawyer McCoy lives in, Seattle. Doing the right thing, for his mom has always come first. Since the day his dad walked out when he is fifteen. Sawyer’s drug-addicted father chose the drugs over, the two of them. Upon finding out, his mom has stage four Parkinson's. He had to put his mom in a care facility to go to college, play hockey, maintain physical training, and a job. To keep the house he got roommates Faith and Harper. Harper is the owner, Asher Silas of the Reapers Hockey Team, Arena & Equipment, she’s his sister. She is now married to a Reaper Nathan Noble. Faith is now married, to a Reaper Lukas Vestergaard.
Because of his fierce loyalty, to his mother, he tried endlessly, to make it onto the Seattle Sharks as a goalie, but they kept passing him up. In the last book, we got, to see the Reapers make a call for him, to be the one-day-only backup goalie for them. However, his friend had them add a clause. If he plays even one second, and they need a goalie he automatically gets, to try out. Since he played for twenty-eight seconds, he gets a call when Fields, their backup goalie, goes down. Leaving the aging, Thurston is slow at his glove and has sluggish skating and mediocre reaction time. A legend for sure, however, even great legends age. He gets the call.
Let's just say, the guys on the team want, Sawyer. Lukas sends his private plane, to bring him, to Carolina. There is a car, to pick him up, and, Langley the team captain's wife, has arranged for him, to stay at her old apartment that is, right across the street from the arena. Axel has kept out of her, and, Faith’s arrangements all due, to fear of nepotism because the tryouts need, to be on the up, and up. There is a three-hour difference, meaning it’s early back home. So, he goes to the bar the team went to after his one day as a Reaper. There he once again finds the firey bartender, Echo Hayes. West Coast and East Coast are back together in the same bar, yet neither feels they are worthy of more.
This is a story of a man at the brink of greatness, in a career he has been working towards, since a tween. But, he has been so, weighted down with adult things, he doesn’t know how to put, himself first. So, his new family does. Then, there is the sassy bartender, who knows nothing, but, heartache and the loneliness of abandonment. All three of her family members have passed, over time leaving her tank empty of, fuel for love and relationships. Since her bar is, the Reapers’ bar of choice, she has become friends with, their ladies. Sheer fate brings them together, but, pure love holds them together.
