I liked this story overall. The characters were well written and the plot was interesting. That said, the scene where Monica pressures Ray to change her clothing squicked me out. It triggered a lot of my own experiences with people (parents, former partners) trying to pressure me into wearing feminine clothing because it “fits better.” For me this was not the fun romantic/comedic scene the author may have intended it to be. There are literally queer shops that cater to masc lesbians for this reason, we don’t need to shop in the “women’s” section if we don’t want to.

This is a story of two women, opposites in all but the way they think, finding themselves in one zany situation after another because of the choices they make while trying not to give in to their attraction to one another. Except for the moment when they separate, which felt contrived to me, I could totally get behind them as characters and what they do. They feel like real people overcoming their past and their misfortunes to find hope and love in their future. This delightful romance will join others on the definitely-read-again shelf.

This story is a rollercoaster of love embraced in the very slowest way. Monica has a beautiful vision for the best wedding she is a party planner. Ray has the old world charm that can create and fix anything in antique restoration. The characters are very lost on the relationship end of life. Ray has not trusted anyone from a very young age except her Grandfather and he is gone. Monica wants desperately to please her family but most of all her yiayia/grandmother. A comedy of such unimaginable odd moments brings them together on a run down winery. The local town square market opens up an adventure that can build a lifetime of dreams. I confess to yelling at these characters to just talk to each other. It was a watershed moment when they finally did but that was at the end of the story. It was a romantic story that is full of angsty doubt in two very strong, stubborn women who can do so much together. The journey they think is all business is so much more. Be prepared for so many classic moments that almost happen as the love story unfolds almost without the characters knowing it. The ending is off the chart in terms of what love really looks like. I cheered loudly, cried often and my heart hurt for these two as they bring such a special story family.

A very entertaining read from one of the best writers in the business. This is a bit of a slow burn romance, with the two leading ladies, Ray and Monica, taking ages to realise not only how perfect they are for each other but also how much they love each other.

Neither wants to risk damaging their professional relationship and risk losing ownership of a vineyard they have jointly inherited. They go on to tiptoe around each other, trying to dampen down their growing feelings for each other.

I felt Monica, at times, needed a bit of a slap around her face with a wet fish to wake her up to what was in front of her, and Ray was the sort of woman you just want to hold in your arms and give her a big, comforting hug to let her know that everything’s going to be okay.

Miranda McLeod hasn’t written a bad book, and this might actually be her best yet.
