I was looking forward to this but was disappointed. My window frames have a 3/4 inch gap and depth in the frames and has a window screen like all the windows in my house. I would have also liked to install it vertically since my room's windows slide open from the sides.
My suggestions for a better product;
1) There are gaps at the bottom of the the foam blocks. There are no gaps at the top, why the bottom? Fix that. The bottom of the foam blocks should also bee thinner. So long as they are pressed against the ends of the window frame's inner grooves the thickness shouldn't matter much.
2) Stick a plastic plate on the outer side of the foam blocks with a function that allows you to snap and lock other foam blocks to each other so installing vertically becomes more feasible.
3) Needs a re-design with window screens in mind since most houses have them and most consumers would be unwilling to want to remove them. Keeping the window screens are also necessary to help prevent bugs like spiders and flying insects from going inside the outer fan's vents.
This is not like the traditional twin blade window fans. This operates as 1. It's either intake or exhaust. When off it does help keep out most noises. Almost like closing window. Definitely recommend this product. Espically if handicapped (like I am) & can't get up to close window for rain,snow,etc. This seals shut pretty well & very quietly. Pretty sleek looking. All you see is vents, no blades or internal parts or wires.
Blocks the sun from shining through to my east facing livingroom so most of day the sun is baking the room. Not anymore. It really helps save money on the AC. It's a huge electricity saver. Traditional window fans don't keep the heat outside where it belongs, this fan KEEPS the days heat outside very well becauseof design. In summer with regular window fan my indoor temperature would climb to 76° with AC on, so the fan had to come out every hot day. Not now, in fact this fan works so well at it my AC doesn't come on nearly as often. My house stays cool now, with fan on. Nobody can see in, It's like having blinds blocking the view so you can keep your privacy at all times.
It's little longer than the normal window fan it moves more air.
Works well. The remote is small & simple.
Vornado seems to be really good quality.
UPDATE: the hottest day,95°, fan was on low & the AC still worked perfectly. It actually reached the set temp & shut off. I was stunned, it's so efficient.
As an alternative place to get this fan, Try Home Depot, Target, Lows, etc., you need to check these places daily. Sells out fast.
This fan is very low profile, and it is designed to NOT be like a smaller version of a window fan, but designed to look like an actual window "unit". There aren't any blades, and when you switch directions, a bar like contraption rotates in the middle, switching the airflow. And as for privacy, with a regular window fan with blades, people outside can see inside at night. Since this fan doesn't have any blades, no one can see anything from outside, it is solidly blacked out and from the street, it just looks like part of the house almost, hardly noticeable.
As for the sound of the fan, the low speed is super quiet, and I could still hear the frogs and crickets outside. That is *super* important for me, because if I can't have the fan on and hear nature outside, I send it back. I need to hear nature sounds outside, and this unit absolutely fits that bill. The foam blocks that are included are made from flexible foam that you can shape into what you need to keep the outside air where it belongs.
I was home for the first time it rained, and decided to keep the fan on to see what would happen. Of course every storm is different, but for that particular storm, it worked just fine. Since the unit doesn't have blades, it is designed with a "roof" over the air bar that is inside, and the rain just rolled off. So I would sort of feel okay that if I were away from home and if it rained, that nothing too terribly bad would happen. But really, I would never feel absolutely confident with ANY electrical appliance left in the rain.
The entire unit feels solid and built to last, and I hope it does. The only thing they could include to make it better would be a smart app that works with Google, Alexa, Siri, etc. Developers... please do this!
