I liked that Kate & Callum had to learn to love and trust each other in order for their arranged marriage to work out. I really enjoyed rating from Callum's perspective and really felt for Kate.

I didn't like the hidden pregnancy plotline or that forgiving an abuser seemed to be a requirement of Callum in order for Kate to love him fully. The epilogue was interesting, but I felt it was not necessary to the overall story and seemed to take away from the original ending.

I love stories of Scotland and this was one that really tugged at the heart.

Both the hero and heroine are torn between their feelings for each other and their need to forgive and heal.

I enjoyed the storyline of forgiveness but it was realistic in that it was not easy to do. Both for the spouse, father and self.

It is both romantic and tragic, funny and sad. I hated it to end!

This is the first book I've read in a long time where I just couldn't bring myself to put it down! Like curl up in bed and made everyone feed themselves that day because I was so engrossed with this story! Heidi did an incredible job with the characters, backdrop, storyline and the chemistry between the two main characters! It was clean which is something I always look to. It's a 5 star read in my mind and Heidi is now an instant buy when she releases books! I bought her other book, "Where the Stars Meet the Sea" and it was just as good!

I bought this book with my own money because it was one I really wanted to read and these are my own honest words because I think if you like Clean historical romance you should definitely read this one. No one asked me to write this or read this book!

I enjoyed the story and the characters. I prefer my HRs with more romance/steam/passion. There were times it seemed slow and there is no intrigue or angst. If you prefer a book with zero spice and likable characters I would definitely recommend. I gave this four stars because I believe for the type of story it’s a good book. If you prefer an all the feels romance this won’t be a book for you.

This was such a lovely story. The prose, the imagery, the feelings - all of them were so beautifully written, and I found myself reading more and more slowly just to savor the words and images that Heidi Kimball creates. Days after finishing the book, I was still thinking about Callum and Kate, both of whom are compelling characters that touched my heart. It was remarkable to see Kate come to the realization that one poor decision did not completely define Callum as a man, particularly when he showed himself to be compassionate, thoughtful and committed, albeit several years later. I gave the story 4 stars, however, because I wished the story had ended with Kate and Callum coming together with the handfast rather than with the epilogue. Had the story stopped with the ending - "A family at last." - I would have given it 5 stars, without a doubt. SPOILERS - do not read further if you don't want to know the ending. LAST CHANCE BEFORE SPOILERS! I would have liked the story to end with Kate, Callum and Charlotte coming together as a family of 3 and all of them, happy with that. So much of the story I felt was about Kate and Callum coming to accept each other as they were, with all their imperfections, and what they each brought to their relationship, rather than what they might bring to it in the future, namely more children and an heir. With the epilogue, and the appearance of a "miracle child" after Kate had been barren for 11 years, it felt like it undid a lot of what Kate and Callum had come to accept about their life together, particularly in Callum's case, not having a male heir. For me, it seemed too incongruous to throw a "miracle child" in there, after everything Kate and Callum went through to get back to each other. That Kate asks Callum if he's disappointed that the "miracle child" is not a boy - to me, went against what I grew to love about Callum - that is, his acceptance that Kate and Charlotte were enough for him, even without him having a male heir. Still, despite these parts of the ending that were less to my liking, Heart in the Highlands is a beautiful story and was a joy to read. Now I want tae visit Scotland too!

I absolutely loved this book. This is the fourth I've read of Heidi Kimball's and I read it in one sitting whilst ill in bed with covid. The storyline was great and I loved seeing the love and forgiveness develop between Callum and Kate. The one thing that I found a little annoying was reading the Scottish accent. My mother is from the Highlands with a strong Scottish accent. It felt overly done in the book and for me personally, detracted from the read a bit. Other than that, a very enjoyable read.

Kate and Callum meet the day before their wedding. It has been arranged through Kate's grandfather and (Callum's father, the Duke) who hopes she will one day find love with her intended.

Callum leaves after marrying Kate in a fit of anger towards his father, with who he has never seen eye to eye, and takes off to Barbados for over four years. Kate is heartbroken and with a child, but Callum doesn't find this out until he comes home. Kate doesn't trust Callum and he has to slowly earn Kate's trust which she doesn't just dole out. She makes him wait as he did to her. Even though I just wanted Kate to say, "Yes, I love you." Her stalling made this story more realistic.
