*“In a feat worthy of his heroic subjects, Riordan crafts a sequel stronger than his compelling debut.”--Publishers Weekly (starred review)

After a summer spent trying to prevent a catastrophic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson―a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any “normal” friends.

But things don’t stay quiet for long. Percy soon discovers there is trouble at Camp Half-Blood: the magical borders which protect Half-Blood Hill have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and the only safe haven for demigods is on the verge of being overrun by mythological monsters. To save the camp, Percy needs the help of his best friend, Grover, who has been taken prisoner by the Cyclops Polyphemus on an island somewhere in the Sea of Monsters, the dangerous waters Greek heroes have sailed for millennia―only today, the Sea of Monsters goes by a new name…the Bermuda Triangle.

Now Percy and his friends―Grover, Annabeth, and Tyson―must retrieve the Golden Fleece from the Island of the Cyclopes by the end of the summer or Camp Half-Blood will be destroyed. But first, Percy will learn a stunning new secret about his family―one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon’s son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.

The original heroes from The Lightning Thief are reunited for their biggest challenge yet: getting Percy to college when the gods are standing in his way.

The original hero. A brand-new adventure.

Percy Jackson has saved the world multiple times - battling monsters, Titans, even giants - but these days the modern-day son of Poseidon is hoping for a regular final year at school.

Too bad the Greek gods have other plans, and three new quests for Percy to complete.

First up: the cupbearer of the gods, Ganymede, is missing his golden chalice. Not only is this embarrassing (why do the gods keep losing their magical items?), it's also potentially disastrous. One sip from the cup will turn any mortal into a powerful god. And the old gods do not take kindly to newbies.

Can Percy and his friends Annabeth and Grover find the chalice before it falls into the wrong hands? And even if they do, will they be able to resist its awesome power. . .?

Readers new to the Percy Jackson universe and long-time fans will love this epic adventure - full of legendary heroes, mythical creatures, ancient Greek gods and enduring friendship - from the global bestseller Rick Riordan.

THE ORIGINAL HERO. A BRAND-NEW ADVENTURE.

Percy Jackson has saved the world multiple times – battling monsters, Titans, even death himself – so graduating high school should be a breeze, right?

Wrong. Percy needs three recommendation letters from the gods before his final year in high school comes to an end. And one thing Percy knows, the gods on Mount Olympus don’t do anything for free.

To secure his second letter, Percy and his friends Annabeth and Grover agree to a new quest – pet-sitting for the goddess Hecate while she’s away over Halloween. They just need to follow her simple rules:

  1. Look after the pets like their lives depend on it (because they do)
  2. Don’t touch anything – especially Hecate’s magic potions!
  3. See points 1 and 2

But when Grover’s curiosity gets the better of him, the trio find themselves with a giant goat, a destroyed house, and Hecate’s (terrifying and potentially deadly) pets on the loose in New York City.

Now the trio have twenty-four hours to find the pets and restore the mansion to order – or face the full fury of Hecate and her horrifying three-heads.

In his continuing quest to earn college recommendation letters from the gods, Percy has to pet sit the goddess Hecate's polecat and giant mastiff during Halloween week. What could go wrong?

Rick Riordan’s newest Percy Jackson adventure is full of hilarious set pieces, a diverse cast of gods and monsters, and many other delightful tricks and treats.

Percy Jackson, now a high school senior, needs three recommendation letters from the Greek gods in order to get into New Rome University. He earned his first one by retrieving Ganymede’s chalice. Now the goddess Hecate has offered Percy another “opportunity”—all he has to do is pet sit her polecat, Gale, and mastiff, Hecuba, over Halloween week while she is away. Piece of cake, right?

Percy, Annabeth, and Grover settle into Hecate’s seemingly endless mansion and start getting acquainted with the fussy, terrifying animals. The trio has been warned not to touch anything, but while Percy and Annabeth are out at school, Grover can’t resist drinking a strawberry-flavored potion in the laboratory. It turns him into a giant frenzied goat, and after he rampages through the house, damaging everything in sight, and passes out, Gale and Hecuba escape. Now the friends have to find Hecate’s pets and somehow restore the house, all before Hecate gets back on Saturday. It’s going to take luck, demigod wiles, and some old and new friends to hunt down the animals and set things right again.

I watched the movie before I read the book and to be honest...I enjoyed the movie! But that was BEFORE I read the book. Maaaann was I disappointed in the movie after reading the book. I totally understood why the movies didn't do well and why there weren't anymore made.
The movie is essentially a complete rewrite of the book! I was shocked. I kept expecting scenes to play out like I saw in the movie but none of them did or if they did...it was few and far between.
Percy Jackson. Diagnosed with ADHD but unbeknownst to him...he's a godling and that is just his survival instincts keeping him alive. He's constantly in trouble at school and while Grover is his best friend...not all is as it seems. Percy has been kicked out of school after school after school. He's always getting into fights. His mom is married to a jerk, but it's for his own good. Bizarre but true.
Now! This book is a really good story! There is a lot of action, adventure, drama, and danger. Percy is sent on a quest to recover that which was stolen. He desires to save his mother from her fate, but a prophecy warns him that he will fail to save that which matters most.
I have to say I like the book a million times more than the movie and I honestly wish that they had followed the book more than just creating their own storyline to make things "more interesting."
I will say that I'm glad they toned down his attitude in the movie though. I felt that Percy's mouth was just too annoying. I mean...in some scenes I get it, but attitude all the time?! Give me a break! Couldn't he have been smacked upside the head at least ONCE by a god?! I mean...seriously?! It would have done him some good.
I'm rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I'm taking off half a star because that attitude just got on my last nerve and the fact that nothing ever happened to him to make him check it just rubbed me the wrong way. There are a lot of good moments in this book and so I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

The Sea of Monsters is book two in Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series. The author picks the story up after the summer has passed and another school year is coming to an end. All has been proverbially quiet. No monsters, no screw-ups, no serious danger to threaten Percy. So it looks like he'll be able to come back to this school next year! But...of course...things aren't going to pan out that way. With a little help from a new "friend" at school, Percy is able to survive. But what's with the weird dreams of Grover at night? And there's danger at camp? What is going on? Well...chaos is about to rain down like hailstones on Percy, but at least he'll have some help along the way.
Now! I watched the movie before reading the book and I have to say that once again...I'm disappointed in the way the movie was handled. Everything was twisted around and I honestly feel that the book is more adventurous and well done than the movie. Percy meets Tyson pretty quickly, but I'm honestly surprised that it takes Percy so long to see what Tyson really is. I'm glad that the author toned down Percy's attitude in this book. The last one he honestly got on my nerves. Granted any interaction with Ares is limited, but still. But of course, the author brings in a new character to irk my nerves...Tantalus. It takes a while to get Tantalus's story, but I'm glad when I did get why he was being punished.
This story has a bit of a slower pace than the first book, but it's pretty satisfying overall. I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I know this book is fiction, but honestly, there were more than a few times of where I felt the characters needed to have more sense than they do. Moving on to the next book and looking forward to the freshness to come of it not being tainted by a completely rewritten movie.

The books came in great condition! The box is pretty, and the back of the books had one of my favorite decorative features- the spines matched in a pattern! Looks great on a shelf. The spines were easy to relax. Love the books, and even though I'm probably a little older than the targeted demographic (although a lot of people my age still read and love it) I love the books! They are definitely a bit chaotic but if you're going to read anything with greek mythology it's going to be chaotic- If anything, it made me love them more. I also like the humor, and the books are written well. I love the characters too!

The poster isn't really a poster though. I didn't buy this for the poster- it was just a plus, so I'm not that disappointed, but still. You can't even really call it a poster to be honest lol. It's very small and thin, not square or a large rectangular shape like most posters. It's long and short, although the artwork is pretty.

I bought these for the price, and they look very nice! 5 stars

I enjoyed the miniseries, so I decided to buy the book series. I've finished the first book so far - as enjoyable as the miniseries. I'm interleaving reading them with The Expanse book series, also bought from Amazon because I enjoyed the TV series, and well worth it. The first time I received this boxed set, Amazon put it in a plastic bag, and the books I received had most of their corners dog-eared. I took the boxed set back to the local Amazon Fresh store, got a refund, then ordered it again - the second shipment was in a box, and was in fine shape.

The package came with only a small dent on one of the corners of the box. All books came in good condition with no misprints or deformation. The series itself is very exciting and is a perfect read for anyone ages 10 and up.
