Pig Nose is a culturally necessary read . Children need to see characters in their books that reflect who they see in the mirror. Pig Nose provides that reflection for African American young students as they see and read about the characters in this book. Even though children look differently, they face some of the same issues daily, and bullying is one of those issues. Books like this add to the relatibility factor, being more alike than different. The story was simple in nature, while addressing an impactful issue. My favorite parts are the "Lessons Learned," the question and answers sections that provide valuable toolbox information. The great illustrations were a nice bonus as well! My only critique is that I wanted the characters stories to go just a little deeper in describing who they were and why..

I chose this high rating, because the book is well written. It addressed a very important subject Bullying. I appreciated how the subject was handled right away in school not brushed under the rug. Willies self-respect was restored. The illustrations were beautifully done, down to earth. I would recommend the book to students, school counselors and parent to discuss with their families. Children will enjoy the book.

I have no doubt this book will intrigue, and inspire you to converse with your child or grandchild after reading. I want to see more kids books from this talented author and brilliant illustrator.

Enjoyed this book with my nephew. He saw characters that looked like him and learned that bullying is not acceptable. Glad to see the student questions this allows the reader to engage in conversation.
