About the author

I reside in idyllic Rhode Island along with my two fur-babies. Two incredibly precocious Chihuahuas bent on ruling the planet, and I believe they are getting close. Oliver Winston and Victoria Alexandrina know they at least rule me. They seem to spend their day causing trouble and making my life just a little more exciting than it already is. I have begun to write romance, action/adventure. As well as a smattering of paranormal romance thrown in for good measure. I have just begun my official writing career, although I have been writing plays and scripts since I was in grammar school. So, come along for the ride! I promise some thrills, chills, lots of laughter and fun, and some utterly amazing original characters.

Now, Director Azarya has a new concern. There’s been a rash of killings in Europe of academics and people of science, by demons. This time, Alec and Rafe are off to Paris to investigate and it doesn’t leave Alec with a good feeling. The destruction and carnage at the University of Paris Science and Letters, leaves Professor Moreau, who had an affinity for researching King Solomon and the Testament of Solomon, dead. Rafe believes Barghest’s are the culprits. Following this disaster there’s now a rash of kidnappings and it set’s them on their way to Tel Aviv, and Clemy join’s in. At the Tel Aviv University, they find Professor Renzulli dead. He has researched the Seal of Solomon. They are faced with Barghest again, along with New Watchers. Alec’s life is in danger and Rafe is beside himself.
Returning to the Praesidium, Alec gathers his research and with Enoch the AI, they discover the connections between the dead professors and kidnapped, that leads to the Seal of King Solomon. The ring contains a power that will control demons and cause death and destruction throughout the world.
In order to find the Seal of Solomon, Alec and Rafe have to obtain the Greenstone of Rabdos to give to Beelzebub, who has the ring. But their journey is filled with danger and possible death as they’re put through tests and confront demons: Beelzebub, Rabdos, Envy and the well of souls, Asmodeus, Ornias, sink hole, land of the djinn, Onoskelis, Rath, the Lion Bearer, and Obizuth.
Unbeknownst to the Alec, Rafe and the Directors of the Praesidium, in Ukraine, Markus Lee St. Clair with Eris Erebos by his side, is experimenting with a chemical that will kill the masses.
After all the chaos Rafe and Alexander endure, there’s still secrets that can destroy not just the human race but their relationship, too. The change in Rafe and the secrets that he keeps hidden. The odd name of Mal’ach. No matter how much Alec pursues answers from Rafe, it will lead to a dangerous situation for them both. What is the truth about Alec’s parents and was there a connection to the New Watchers? Why does someone feel they already met Alec? What of the New Watcher that looks like Alec? Who is Sabastian? How is that Eris Erebos and the New Watchers always seem to know where Alec and Rafe are? What will the Seal of Solomon bring?
R. R. Pearl creates another explosive, fast paced action, violent, deathly and dangerous page-turner with the second installment of “The Watchers” series. The “Seal of Solomon”, the bible and myth, are an intriguing mix for a plot. Pearl had me so curious that I spent time finding out even more about the subject matter, especially the demons and the places that she describes so vividly in Europe: Israel, Italy, Tel Aviv, Syria and Africa. The Scottish dialect really comes through with Alec and his banter and conversations with Rafe.
Besides Alec and Rafe there’s a host of characters that return from the first novel.
Doctor Clementine “Clemy” Armistead and Norri Lee St. Clair, both have forged a great friendship. Theodore “Teddy” Quora who can answer some questions for Alec. Enoch the snarky “AI” and Oliver! Of course, Eris Erebos, Markus St. Clair, the New Watchers are back accompanied with so many evil characters and terrifying demons.
I was surprised and excited to see the second addition to “The Watchers” series and I can’t wait for R.R. Pearl’s 2.5 “The Might of the Coming Vril-Ya”. I can’t even imagine what she has planned for Alec and Rafe.
I also recommend “In the Valleys of the Earth” book one of “The Watcher’s” series. It’s just as exciting and introduces these great characters and the excitement they bring. I’ve read and listened to the fantastic narration by John York. The Scottish accent is very distinctive and he provides a variety of accents for the other characters to recognize them individually. His narration is presented with the high emotions that come with this fantastic tale. I hope there’s plans for this second novel to be on audio, too.
I actually think this was a difficult book to read straight through. Like the first book, I suspect it will be better in audio format than print, at least in my opinion. The accents and conversational rhythms flow better in my mind vocally. There was a lot of information being thrown at us and I found myself researching some of it on the side to better understand why the story was put together as it was. Bottom line though, I liked the story and look forward to the next while fervently hoping Alec and Rafe make some personal progress.
The good was the premise and story of this book. What could be cooler than traveling around the globe looking for ancient/mythical items to thwart evil? All with the endless money and technology a secret agency has to offer. And let's not forget the great action scenes. If you are going to go the Indiana Jones route of cool archeologist finding lost treasure against evil forces, you better have some good action moments.
The not so good was a few things. Let's start with I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I think my main trouble was with how the book is written. You want VERY minimal scene depiction and all dialogue? You have found your book. For a multi-POV book, there is also very little internal monologue as well. Basically isn't almost a TV or movie script with how little detail there is. For me, not so good especially since the blurb claims you can read this as a stand alone.
There are a bunch of scenes at the start of the book that seemingly have nothing to do with the rest of the book. Now maybe they were something from the previous book, but I doubt it. Should I find differently, I will amend this review, but if it doesn't really drive the story forward, what is the point?
I honestly has a REALLY hard time getting into this book. Which was a bummer because by the end, I was starting to get into it. The sheer amount of confusion and lack of understanding of the story are what l believe led to my struggles. Then add in the almost zero narration, and it was difficult to come back to.
