3.0 out of 5 stars Blend of politics, hacking, human rights, and ethics
Reviewed in India on September 28, 2021
When it comes to working for the public, ethics and moral code of conduct should be idolized first, but sadly politicians, government, public workers lack those traits. Against the flow is based upon these traits, where a hacker, a politician, a podcaster, and a common mass went against the flow. Apart from the traits, the story is based upon one societal problem and a basic human right, the human's right to water. Viren, the hacker joined a big clan to earn money in an unethical way, Wamika started working with politicians with a hidden agenda only to help his villagers with the right to water, Udit become the greedy politician and the common mass started a revolution to get the rights on water. In a brief, the flow of the story can be described just like that.
.
.
Let's talk about the positive side first. Against the flow shows us human greed, morality, and ethics. It portrays the power of politicians, communication, hacking and social media. It shows us how any social platform or a podcast can fire the burning soul of the common mass to protest and get their rights. Eventually, you will end up attending a technical lesson and the dark side of politics.
.
.
Though the story delves upon an important issue, I felt it lacked a proper grip on the circumstances and the development. If you are not a technical geek or a technology enthusiast might skip reading this midway. Adding Viren's storyline just to give Wamika justice at the very end, didn't seem very convincing. Both of their stories ran separately till the last chapter. The inclusion of too many technical terms can halt someone's reading midway, to gather every detail. Apart from these, the climax felt too bland; while the story started with a flow, developed against it, conclude without a flow. Though who should be the ideal readers I have already mentioned above, read it just to gather your knowledge about human's right to water and to attend Wamika's podcasts.
