Ah, yes, with the town bakery/café owner who needs to make others think she isn’t a workaholic. This is a classic fake engagement trope, but it is very well handled. The situations they get into as they actually fall in love are humorous and sweet and enjoyable.

This was an enjoyable story. We get Mila's story. She's the local bakery owner and Ethan's sister from the first book. She's more about her career than love and her family and friends think that's not enough. Jackson is our male counterpart. He's the new vet in town and is so not looking for a relationship. They meet at the bakery one morning when she tries to suggest a different treat than his usual. He immediately declines. She thinks he is out of place here and a stiff stodgy dud. His boss wants to offer a partnership in the office but not unless he's staying and putting down roots. When Mila finds a stray dog they meet up again at the veterinary office. She comes to his rescue when an office assistant is overly enthusiastic towards him. She says they are dating and kisses him. That's when they hatch the fake relationship idea. It works too well. Small-town interferences, nosy people, and their issues cause friction but they muddle thru. Of course, real feelings get involved. Misunderstandings occur but are resolved and a happy ever after is the ending

Believable characters and storyline. I kept getting sidetracked by the horrible grammar though! “Me” is not a bad word—to me, for me, about me, with me, etc, but the author continually used “I” in prepositional phrases—“with Mia and I.” Someone get the poor girl an editor!

I got to know Mila in the first book and I loved her there. I really enjoyed getting to know her character more in this book. Mila is a strong independent woman who owns a bakery, and is focused on the goal of opening a lunch shop next door; the last thing on her mind is a man. Jackson just moved to Dogwood cove in hopes of leaving his past behind him and getting partner at a vet clinic. Due to his past experience in being in a relationship, he's not wanting to get into one anytime soon. However, a situation occurs where Mila kisses Jackson at the Vet office and with is being a small town everyone knows by the end of the day. Mila and Jackson agree to fake date to get Milas friends off her back, and so that Jackson has a chance at being a partner at the clinic.

I loved the messages in the book especially about being happy being independent and being okay to wait because you have a "great life by yourself, you've got goals, and dreams and want a partner that can handle that. Not someone whose going to whine every morning when you get up before dawn, or hold you back from doing what you want". The part I didn't love in the book was the Jackson seemed to have the same flaw as Ethan. That flaw being trust issues. I wish the flaw would have been different somehow.
