Such an awesome series. Dark comedy at its best. And seriously- a hailstorm of murderous rabid gerbils in explodey balls as punishment from the AI- hysterical!

You can't go wrong with this series. A velociraptor that's like a chompy Labrador puppy. A diva cat who loves to visit the "naughty" clubs, and a half-crazy hero who vows they will not break him all while he proceeds to pretty much blow everything to smithereens while saving the day. What's not to love?

I've just started the largest book of them all so far #5 and I can't wait to see how it ends. Keep 'em coming, Matt. Please let there be more. I can't possibly see how this can wrap up by book six so there'd better be lots more books to read and disturbed AI's to throw tantrums.

The dark comedy continues with its silly characters and situations, whether a swarm of murderous gerbils as a result of angering the AI, or lobbing the heads of possessed sex dolls at angry demons, all in a days work for Carl and his team. Of course, there are some serious dark undertones and we will see whether it will break Carl or not. The story covers one floor, and I do wonder whether the author can keep up the story interesting for another dozen or so volumes, although with Carl you never know what short cut he might find. There is also a decent amount of plot armor, granted, part of it is on purpose and the result of the overlords who want to keep his big earner alive for now, at some point that rubber band is going to snap. For now at least, a fun and entertaining read.

After finishing book 3 I knew I was in for a treat. Reading book 4, The Gate of The Feral Gods, was an excellent way to start 2023! Again, I love the characters new (some NPCs in particular) and old and the vast exploration of the 5th floor was gripping. System is excellent and really well interwoven into the story. Humor and heartfelt moments were so authentic and relatable even though I am sitting here all nice and safe while they brave the dungeon. Love the 80s references and I was in kinks by the way Donut mentioned a certain rainbow character from my childhood. Highly recommend this entire series and other series by this awesomely talented author.
