From a hearing Impaired User - The best portable Speaker I've ever used, period!

I have poor hearing and use high quality hearing devices.

I've purchased and tried other portable high end speakers including the BOSE MINI II, a pair of Apple Mini pods, a Phillips and a HP bluetooth speaker. Even a bookshelf stereo system.

While the Bose MINI II has decent audio for its small profile, it does not come close to to the full range of audio as perceived by me. The mini bookshelf system was so-so over all for audio quality; especially dialog.

I struggle with dialog (spoken or sung) as well as higher frequencies and in the past vocals, the twang of guitar (acoustic or electric), violins and other string instruments were a challenge to hear fully across the frequency range.

I read several non-Amazon reviews on this Anker model and all of them gave it the highest ratings including one website calling it, "the portable speaker of the year"!

You may ask, how good can a review be from a person who does not hear well.

My response to a question like that is, if I can hear low, medium and high frequencies now on this Anker (using my hearing devices of course) as well as the words of spoken or sung of both male and female, imagine how good this will sound to those with no or a minimal hearing loss.

This is the first speaker for me that is so easy to hear for lows, mids and higher frequencies. The twang of a guitar, the beat of a drum or a Bass Guitar and most importantly dialog, lyrics, and beautiful voices of singing that all come through on this!

The Soundcore app works quite well on my iPhone and iPad. I enjoy the equalizer preset settings which work well under most circumstances, but, having the ability to custom tailer all of the frequencies and save them under a custom name are a blessing for me. The app gives you full access for tweaking all frequencies and saving as many as needed for future use!

I've got some older music CDs ripped for streaming and a few of them actually sound far better using my custom settings then the pre-sets in this App. I will say again that the pre-sets seem to work well for most listening though. The default setting called "balanced" works well for me. Sometimes turning on the enhanced BASS setting is needed, but, if a piece of music is heavy on the BASS, I turn it off and still have sufficient BASS for that track. Dialog often does -not- need the enhanced BASS turned on because human voices are typically in the middle frequency ranges, not lower where deeper BASS is. Voices even without enhanced BASS on are fine for fullness and depth (they sound realistic).

As for build quality, the outer casing for this Anker Motion Boom Plus is solid and well made. The speaker grills are heavy gauge and the lugs where you attached the strap are solidly made of metal!

Given the excellent reviews by the PROs (CNET, etc) on line for this Anker model as well as the many 5 star Amazon reviews and other websites by owners/users, .....honestly,...none of them are inflated. The high ratings exist for a reason, this speaker is exceptional!

This "boom box" offers some exceptional audio quality along with clear dialog and very sufficient BASS and if it works for me being hearing impaired, as I said, it will work even better for those who do not suffer any hearing loss.

My only regret now is that I did not buy a pair to pair of them to use together in Bluetooth as left and right stereo and I will be ordering a second one soon to do just that!

5 Stars all around, I'm so delighted to have finally found a portable sound system that I can hear so very well no matter what I am streaming to it! The App alone deserves 5 stars and it is a vital asset for those wishing to fine tune their audio experiance.

I'm 68 yrs old and have some hearing loss. I have been after a bluetooth portable speaker that met my needs and wants for a while but with all the ads and hype it is difficult to know what you really want until you listen to it. Not having had the opportunity to personally hear one ahead of time I did research like a lot of us older people do. In my case money was not a factor but I didn't want to spend more than I needed to or go through the back and forth to find what I was pleased with. Due to the reviews I read and review videos I watched I chose the Anker Soundcore Motion Boom Plus Outdoor Speaker with 80W Booming Sound. The deciding factor was a comment made by a reviewer in his video. 'If you are like me and like some bass in your music then this is the one for you' or something to that effect. That did it for me and received the first one 3 days later. Awesome does not describe what I had been hoping for. In my humble opinion this is absolutely what I had been looking for. Clear, crisp sound with that bass you like. Even the older songs (by my standards) of the 60's, 70's, 80's and some 90's now had that oomph I remembered. I was raised on classical music and now even those have the depth of sound I have been looking for. For a small unit like this it is incredible. In all the reviews I had read one of the things the reviewers talked about was the cheap look of the unit. Yeah a lot of plastic but I was not buying it for the material and looks, just the sound. I didn't care what it looked like as long as it sounded the way I wanted and expected and I got that. If you are looking for something that 'looks cool' AND sounds good go ahead and spend the money for it. There is no 'better one' or 'best one' out there no matter what you might think. If you ever find what you think is the 'best one' it will only be that way a few months until the next generation come out. There is only the one you like and are happy with and I am more than happy with my choice. The bass is deep, rich and booming (if you like that kind of thing) and does not drown out the the rest of the spectrum. With my flawed hearing everything is clear from the bottom to the top. For the price you can't beat it, IMO. Now about my earlier comment about the first one. During my research it was noted that you could pair two of them for TWS (True Wireless Stereo). I like my music like others do and this got my attention so 4 days later my second unit arrived and after unboxing it it took all of 30 seconds to have them paired and separated. Oh WOW! is the only way I can describe it. One by itself sounds awesome, paired with another is something I am not able to describe at the moment. I now have a full symphony orchestra in my small living room and when I switch to the rock and roll and more popular music of my generation I have a sound stage to listen to. Is one unit sufficient? Most definitely and it is more than you might expect but why have just one when you can have two? We are all different and have different likes and dislikes when it comes to music for whatever reason. All I can say is if you can hear one before purchase you will be surprised. And if you decide to purchase and then hear it like I did you will not be disappointed. Are there bigger and better? I am sure there is but the next release of portable speakers such as this by whoever makes them will outdo the previous ones one way or another from a technical point. The technical parts are important in a product but the bottom line is not the science or what is on paper but what it produces. To some it may look and feel cheap for whatever reason but it is solid and having it IP67 rating is not a bad thing either even though I have no intention of putting mine in the shower, pool or the creek out back. It probably will not fit in with most decors but in my case, who cares? I wanted sound the way I like it and that is what I got. Keep in mind that your sound source has a lot to do with what you hear. In my case it is my phone with a 256GB SD card that has 40GB of MP3 audio files. I am surprised the neighbors have not made a noise complaint yet.... but it is still early. Thank you Soundcore for a very good product that does what it was intended to do, good clear music with the deep, loud, booming bass a lot of us like.

This will get quite loud with a little rumble, taking in consideration of the size. These are not 12” subwoofers

I’m very impressed, battery life is great. Overall clarity good with little to no distortion at moderate levels of loudness. You will be able to hear your music while you are cutting the grass with no problem. Little bit on the higher side for price but considering it has 2 separate tweets with 2 separate 3” or 3.5” loud speakers producing a good clean clear sound. I have not turned up to 100% don’t know how that would sound but 60% and under sounds great. If you are looking for a battery powered speakers and have the money these would probably satisfy you, you won’t be disappointed in them. Big plus like many others on the market these are water proof, that is definitely one less worry when using out doors. Handle is nice an big, easy to grab. This is also a power bank, that means you can charge cell phones and small tablets or devices While playing music. Battery I believe said lasts up to 24 hours, it will definitely not last that long if you have the volume turned up with the bass boost on, this will shorten that estimated time. I would buy again. I would recommend to anyone looking

Klang, Konnektivität usw. Ist für diesen Preis sehr gut, jedoch habe ich einen massiven Konstruktionsfehler entdeckt. Da der Lautsprecher wirklich komplett Wasserdicht und somit auch Luftdicht ist, baut sich im inneren des Gehäuses ein unter bzw. Überdruck bei Temperaturschwankungen von ~10°C auf.

Auf einem Bild stehen die Passiv Bassmembrane bis auf Anschlag aus dem Gehäuse, Lautsprecher stand 2 Minuten in der Sonne, Musik hören somit nicht möglich, außer man nimmt Beschädigungen in Kauf. Nachdem der Lautsprecher im Haus abgekühlt ist, zogen sich die Bassmembrane ins Gehäuse.

Zweiter Test mit dem zweiten Lautsprecher: im Haus 25°C Außentemperatur 31°C In den Schatten gestellt und Musik gehört. Nach einer halben Stunde standen auch diese Bassmembrane aus dem Gehäuse.

Es ist logisch, dass der Lautsprecher früher oder später unter diesen Umständen beschädigt wird. Für Outdoor Zwecke somit unbrauchbar. Ich habe viele Anker bzw. Soundcore Produkte und bin wirklich massiv enttäuscht. Ich werde auch noch mit dem Support Kontakt aufnehmen.

Ich rate ganz klar vom Kauf ab, selbst wenn man den Lautsprecher nur Indoor verwendet.

The speaker is amazing in every aspect and represents incremental improvements over the old model - Soundcore Boom. The review will be built around comparison between Boom and Boom Plus.

Pluses/Improvements:
1) Even though boombox has become larger, the size of the boombox still fits into rucksack, sack with straps, on a shoulder strap or even carried in hand
2) Weight is around 2.5kg, you can still easily carry it using shoulder strap or just in hand; it is definitely not heavy being carried in a rucksack. I was carrying it for an hour in hand and did not get tired.
3) The body of the speaker is made from ABS plastic; you may think that materials used in Marshall or JBL speakers are more durable, but when you damage those premium speakers, there is not way to restore silicone, rubber or durable fabric; ABS plastic instead is still serviceable using glue, file or soldering iron
4) The bass button improves bass dramatically; the old model was producing muddy bass almost unusable to listen to; bass from Boom Plus is clean, tight, punchy, deep, powerful, impactful. However most of the bass is preserved around 80-85% loudness. When you exceed that loudness threshold, mids and treble overpower bass
5) When paired with another speaker, bass is becoming even more interesting; if you can afford 2 boomboxes, you should try it for yourself or check Youtube reviews
6) Speaker got rid of the early issues detected on the model launch in May-June 2022 - passive radiators being blown out during exposure to sun and summer heat; firmware update fixed piercing highs around 6-7kHz
7) "Soundcore Signature" sound profile visible as a sound graph within mobile application "Soundcore" got also updated/changed with the last firmware update and shines better than EQ recommendations from different vloggers and audio enthusiasts who are trying to improve the boombox sound using different tweaks and presenting them on youtube; this is the first time when "Soundcore Signature" preset produces better audio.
8) The speaker is capable of playing 7-8 hours using maximum loudness; decent medium specs in terms of battery life;
9) Passive radiators are submerged into the body of the speaker more prominently for better mechanical protection
10) The speaker produces large sound stage, sounds powerful and involving, almost euphoric; make sure to place it on a firm ground with a wall behind it for better bass and power sound; Boom has more narrow sound stage due to the size and wattage
11) Boom Plus features 80 watts of powers vs 30 watts from Boom, it is immediately noticeable and contributes to euphoric powerful sound and emotional attitude towards music; it is almost painful to listen to it inside the room on the maximum loudness and absolutely enjoyable outdoors; the sound is not painful at all in terms of proper maximum loudness level
12) Boom Plus features titanium main drivers and two tweeters producing pleasant clear crystal highs; previous Boom models had only 2x passive radiators and 2x mid bass titanium drivers; driver setup inside Boom Plus is represented by 2x25 watt mid bass drivers, 2x15 watt tweeters + 2x passive radiators
13) When I got my Boom speaker a yer ago, I also received a customer survey inside Soundcore app surfaced to those who has connected Boom inside the application; the focus of the survey was to receive customers opinion on the design of the Soundcore logo placed on the coming Boom Plus speaker grill with several photos having this logo small, medium or large covering the entire front speaker grill etc; back then I responded to that survey by saying that small company logo looks like a mouth, 2x mid bass drives look like eyes and tweeters appear to be ears of the "robot face", if you look into the driver setup behind the speaker grill ;-)) - I am glad that after a year I hold this very design in my hands and enjoy all this homework being done correctly.
14) Custom EQ is still at your disposal to play with speaker settings; builtin profiles are Signature Sound, Voice, Treble Boost, Balanced; you can still apply custom EQ settings and save them; trick discovered earlier in Boom model - move all EQ sliders up to the maximum, which makes speaker 10-15 db louder - is still in place but the sound is not that clear
15) Boom Plus features AUX port which was lacking in Boom model; now you can plug the boombox into your laptop, PC or smartphone using 3.5mm cable
16) Boom plus still features powerbank capabilities, Type-C charging input; the difference is that rubber plug that covers USB, Type-C and AUX port is sealing them better, is constructed and designed better with less risk to tear it apart over time

Cons:
1) I wish the speaker had even more power 100-120-140-160 watts
2) not sure that ABS plastic is a proper material, for speaker

Summary: Boom Plus has become everything that Boom could not do a year ago

Note: please remove plastic covers from rubber stoppers on the legs of the speaker; the bass is so powerful that speaker moves by itself to the edge of the bench and may fall into the ground, if the plastic covers are not removed from rubber stoppers on which the speaker is standing.

Behobene Fehler & endlich gut! (Und Vergleich zu Tribit Stormbox Blast)

Zugegeben, in meiner ersten Rezension, die ich der Transparenz halber unten anhänge, steckt mächtig Frust.

Das hat sich jetzt zum Positiven geändert, deshalb nun auch die vollen 5 Sterne.

Begründung:

- Der Kundenservice ist absoluter Wahnsinn ! Andere Firmen können sich hier ein großes Stück abschneiden. Nach meiner ersten Rezension hat sich der Anker-Kundendienst gemeldet und mir Ersatz in Form einer Motion Boom, eine neue Motion Boom Plus (verbessertes Produkt) oder die Erstattung des gezahlten Betrages angeboten - ohne die bereits gelieferte Box zurück zu fordern. Wow. Etwas ungläubig und mit leicht schlechtem Gewissen habe ich mich für die Variante der neuen, verbesserten Motion Boom Plus entschieden, da ich gerne wissen wollte, ob sie die Fehler tatsächlich in den Griff bekommen.

- Geliefert wurde die neue, verbesserte Motion Boom Plus heute (14.7.22) und ja, die Fehler sind restlos beseitigt! Es gibt keinen unangenehmen Peak mehr bei den besagten 6Khz. Der Klang ist jetzt rund, angenehm, kein Bass wummert und das Musikhören macht endlich richtig Spaß. Mehr dazu gleich.

- Overheating Issues (Überhitzungsprobleme) - beseitigt. Die Box stand eine gute halbe Stunde in der prallen Sonne und ich konnte nichts dergleichen mehr reproduzieren.

- Getestet wurden von mir mehrere Boxen im Vergleich. Die Marshall Kilburn 2, Harman Kardon Go+Play, JBL Charge 5, JBL Flip 6 und die, nach der ersten Enttäuschung gekaufte Tribit Stormbox Blast, die ja bestimmt viele im Auge haben.

Kurzum: Die neue Motion Boom Plus überzeugt gegen alle Boxen, außer gegen die Tribit Stormbox Blast, aber ist gar nicht mal so weit weg. Mit entsprechenden EQ-Einstellungen tatsächlich auch ziemlich nah dran, bis zu einer gewissen Lautstärke, die man aber im Normalfall nicht erreicht.

Warum behalte ich nun die Motion Boom Plus und wieso die 5 Sterne? Durch die behoben Fehler hat man hier eine vollwertige und für den Preis unschlagbare Box. Der Vorteil, den die Tribit klangtechnisch mitbringt, relativiert sich wenn man unterwegs ist, durch das deutlich geringere Gewicht. Ja, auch ich dachte der Unterschied von 3 Kilogramm ist nicht die Welt, aber es macht sich doch deutlich bemerkbar.

Ein weiterer Vorteil gegenüber der Stormbox Blast ist das Laden über USB-C. Ja, der Akku der Blast ist doppelt so groß und die Laufzeit fantastisch. Das bringt mir auf einem Festival aber recht wenig, wenn der Akku einmal leer ist. Die Motion Boom Plus hingegen lade ich problemlos über meine Powerbank.

Neutral: Das Design und der Bluetooth-Standard (SBC). Das Design ist Geschmacksache und fließt deshalb nicht in meine Rezension ein. Zudem ist der Klang wesentlich entscheidender und der ist, wie oben beschrieben, jetzt, super. Beim Bluetooth-Standard SBC gibt es sicher Luft nach oben, ob das allerdings einen großen Unterschied macht, weiß ich nicht zu beurteilen. Das Abspielen über AUX hat jedenfalls keinen großen klanglichen Unterschied gebracht.

Fazit: Ja, man kann die Motion Boom Plus nun endlich guten Gewissens kaufen und wird mit dem Klang zufrieden sein! Beide, die Motion Boom Plus und die Tribit Stormbox Blast, haben ihre Vorteile, die man abwägen muss. Ich werde die Stormbox Blast wahrscheinlich mehr im Innenbereich nutzen, während die Boom Plus sicher draußen mehr zum Einsatz kommen wird. Und noch eine Klarstellung zum Schluss: Ja, ich war schwer beeindruckt vom Kundenservice von Anker, hätte meine ursprüngliche Rezension aber genauso stehen lassen, wenn sich bei der Box nichts gebessert hätte.

Ursprüngliche Rezension, Ende Juni 22, nach einem Monat testen:

Ich habe die Soundcore Motion Boom Plus Ende Mai erhalten und seitdem ausgiebig getestet. Leider gefällt sie mir, umso länger ich sie teste, umso weniger.

Ja, sie ist sicher gut, wenn man mit Leuten Zeit im Freien verbringt und die Musik einfach pumpen soll. Für Audiophile wie mich, ist sie aber leider ungeeignet.

Pluspunkte bekommt die Motion Boom Plus von mir wegen der schnellen Ladung und der langen Akkulaufzeit. Sie ist, mit einem 65 Watt Ladegerät in ca. 2 Stunden voll und der Akku hält durchaus das, was versprochen wird - bei "normaler" Lautstärke.

Die Verarbeitung ist gut. Nichts, was man in den Händen hält und bewundert (auch nicht der Optik wegen) aber solide.

Jetzt zu den Mankos... Der Sound ist oookay, aber mehr eben auch nicht:

Der Bass wummert und ist wenig präzise, selbst bei niedriger Lautstärke und wirkt aufdringlich. Die Mitten sind dafür ohne Details und die Höhen übersteuert. Der Klang wirkt aufdringlich und ist anstrengend.

Weder das Firmware Update, noch unzählig getestete EQ-Einstellungen in der App oder am Smartphone (Dolby Atmos), konnten hier eine Verbesserung des Klanges bringen. Es ist ein bisschen zum verzweifeln.

Auf verschiedenen YouTube Kanälen und in Foren wird deshalb auf ein neues Firmware Update gehofft. Ich habe da so meine Zweifel und schreibe eher der Bauart der Motion Boom Plus ihre Eigenschaften zu.

Zusammengefasst: Schade. Die Box hat Potential, das sie leider nicht im Ansatz ausschöpft. Für die Gartenparty draußen ist sie sicher geeignet, genauso sicher aber nicht für das Hören auf geringer Lautstärke, im Innenbereich, oder für Menschen die schon einmal Besseres hatten (komme von der Marshall Kilburn 2).

Ich hoffe meine Rezension bringt für den ein oder anderen ein wenig Licht ins Dunkel.

I own the Soundcore Motion Boom (purchased due to mainly good reviews) which I was, and still am very happy with for its good sound, good bass and easy portability. I would compare it to the size of a lion cub, but with a roar on a similar level to its mother ! Its little size belies its output. BUT, when I saw the Motion Boom Plus being advertised, which I now call 'the daddy', it is bigger and heavier, bigger speakers, and has tweeters and an aux socket, of which neither are on the Motion Boom, and with it being considerably more powerful than the Boom, then this was a no brainer for me ! I received an email from Anker to buy an early bird coupon for £1 to get a discount code for a whopping £62 off. How could I refuse such an offer? Had to get it, and am very pleased that I did. As a music lover of various devices, and owner of a few 'old school' boomboxes that this Motion Boom Plus resembles, I have a massive personal music collection spanning back from the 80's, and I listen to a lot of YouTube music these days ( didn't take me long to build up a massive YT playlist) discovering so much music that I have never heard before.

There is also the added option of the aux socket to plug in my ipod, portable cd/mp3 player or portable minidisc player, yes, minidisc player, and this powerhouse unit does not disappoint. Sound quality is as good as anything i've heard from a bluetooth boombox. I prefer clarity with all music, and the bass does not cloud or drown out the overall sound. Bluetooth boomboxes have come a very long way and are improving all the time with the sound quality and increased power output. Connection is quick and the Soundcore App (Play Store) lets you tweak the sound to your own personal taste, and you will need to do that to get the best sound out of it. It does make a noticeable difference compared to the standard 'out of the box' settings which sounded terrible.

Battery life seems good so far, though not quite as long lasting as the motion boom, but that is not an issue. I have found that the bass can sound a lot weaker depending on where you place it, be it high up, medium level or low down, so it's best to move it around to find an area that hits the bass 'sweet spot'. Then you can get the party started ! I just wish the subs at the side had some sort of protection grills, not that I would put it anywhere where there is a chance it could get damaged. After all, I do have to look after my newly adopted 'daddy' with extreme care ! Overall, a highly recommended product by another happy customer.

I'm very particular about my sound and find it very difficult to gauge a product through the internet alone. I needed a portable speaker that was both Bluetooth and had aux in, it had to be light weight, and it had to have decent battery life with minimal charge time. All of this at a reasonable price and a high quality. After much research and deliberation, I decided to go with this portable speaker and feel like I've hit the nail bang on the head!

What is curious about this item is the powerful subs (that can be turned on or off) for its lightweight design. I've heard many people dislike the cheapish design of the speaker but I'm actually a fan. It's minimal, non-intrusive with a sleekness to it. There also being no material on it means any dirt is easily wiped off. But most importantly, it feels like it allows the sound to move through the case with ease, much like open back headphones.

The sound is powerful, punchy, clear at high and low volumes and caters for all genres. Mine specifically being Drum & Bass, a category seldom used in video reviews.

I can't speak too much about the battery life as so far, I have not depleted the battery fully as I have always been near a charging point. And its waterproof & dustproof features are something I may not ever needed but have it on good authority that they are to standard.

For the price & performance, I don't think you can get a better deal. Brands like JBL I think are overrated and brands like W-King are not worth your time (I did and immediately sent it back)
