So far I've made mung bean sprouts and lentil sprouts. I used 1/4 cup dried beans each time and that ended up being way too many beans per jar as the grow. I would recommend 1/8th cup dried beans. When soaked overnight they will double in size. Then water and drain with the sprouting lids every 12 hours. It's so easy and fun, takes about 6 days. The lentil sprouts are great on sandwiches. I don't think I'll do mung bean sprouts again - it was a hassle to trim the roots off - I think I'll grow them microgreen-style. The netting is not fine enough for the tiniest seeds like broccoli or chia seeds. This works perfectly for lentils and small to medium size beans. I highly recommend them. Huge money saver from buying sprouts as the grocery store! No rust after 2 weeks use.

The picture is after adding one teaspoon of Alfalfa sprout seeds to each jar, letting them soak for five to six hours, and then rinsing the sprouts every three to six hours thereafter. They sprouted in just two to three days, and this picture was taken exactly one week after the seeds started! As an FYI, I purchased the Nature Jim's Alfalfa Sprout Seeds shown here on Amazon.
Because of the commitment to rinse the seeds so often, after a few nights I realized I needed to eliminate carrying the two jars upstairs every night and back down in the morning, so I now wrap them both in a plastic grocery bag, which keeps the moisture in for eight to ten hours every night so I can skip that nighttime rinse. This works fine for me!
I have already taken enough sprouts from the jar on the right for three salads when combined with sliced carrots, mushrooms, celery, and salad dressing. This is why the sprouts are lower in that jar.
So, in less than a week I have enough sprouts for about a dozen salads - this is really a lovely surprise! This method keeps the sprouts fresh and crisp, and they taste great.
Who would have thought sprouting could be so easy?
