I originally purchased this dress to wear to a Valentine’s Day dinner at an upscale restaurant.

First of all I do think labeling this as a “sweater dress” is slightly misleading. Ribbed sure, but the material is a slightly slippery polyester - it’s not made of the fabric you would associate with an actual sweater dress. Regardless the dress is still of good quality, thickness and the fabric is breathable.

The dress runs true to size and fit well size-wise.

I am a bit disappointed in the dress as the pictures made it seem like there is a slit at the bottom on both sides, but there is only a slit on the left side. I’m pretty slim but I have prominent hip dips, which can make long bodycon dresses that come to a narrow point below my knees look very awkward and unflattering. I was hoping having slits on both sides would ease the look and have the dress me a tiny bit more flowy. The dress looked much better with shape wear on, but I couldn’t justify the full price I paid for something I wasn’t completely happy with nor would wear often. I’ve seen this dress go on sale for half the price or less - if I had gotten it on sale I would’ve kept it. Instead I returned it to get my money back.

Tl;dr: If long bodycon dresses are your thing you’ll likely enjoy this dress! Just don’t expect the typical sweater dress material. If you’re iffy on this style of dress or won’t be the one to change your mind. Runs true to size.

However, I wear the type of shapewear that is basically like a long tank dress, so I was worried about the straps showing. At 5'5, I would definitely need to wear heels to avoid having dress wear me rather than the other way around. Fabric is also pretty thick, so definitely save for chiller seasons, but it does feel expensive and comfortable against the skin. Slit is not significant if you wear heels if you are my height and below.

Also I can't think of an upcoming occasion to wear this too...I bought it on impulse during a Prime Day Sales Event because it had great reviews...but this is definitely the type of dress you can wear to a formal event, or special date night like Valentine's Day or something...I'll probably repurchase when the time is right.
