A GREAT EVIL IS HUNTING FOR ANCIENT SECRETS
The rabbit village of Meadowvale is a peaceful place consisting mostly of farmers and craftsmen. The townsfolk are amiable, but they keep mostly to themselves, avoiding their long-eared cousins to the west. They all but ignore the rumors from the east.
By the time a great army of lizards sweeps through their quiet village—taking captives and leaving ruin in its wake—it is too late for the rabbits to regret their ignorance. Meadowvale starts a long and arduous trek to inspire the other towns to join them, help save their families, and overthrow a long-forgotten evil once and for all.
Perfect for fans of C. S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia and Brian Jacques’ Redwall series.
“Magical, fantastical, thrilling, and enchanting are all words which swarm the mind when reading the tale of Werbel in Meadowvale. A young rabbit taken from his family, a mother seeking revenge for her lost children, evil lizards building an army, and much, much more are hidden within these pages.” — ESTHER ROBINSON

About the author

N. M. Rudolph began writing before he can recall. The earliest poem he was able to preserve, however, is from when he was nine. Inspired by his father’s lifelong scholarliness, Rudolph gained a deep love of reading and writing. One of his fondest childhood memories is grabbing a volume from his father’s encyclopedia, flipping to a random page, and discovering far-off worlds.
Since then, he has become the innovative author and (sometimes) illustrator of three collections of poetry and one novel. In each work with his distinct style, Rudolph explores themes that reverberate deep in each of our souls: fear, hope, trust, betrayal, longing, despair, regret, and more.
Rudolph’s literature—whether in person or in print, poetry or prose—has been warmly and widely received, and he hopes to continue this outpouring for years to come.
He lives in Pennsylvania with his wife and their four-legged children, Sofia and Laela.

Many fantasy writers seem to adopt Sanderson's belief that a fantasy world is best enjoyed when its mechanics are fully understood. In reality, this often manifests as an oppressive amount of world-building. I am happy to report though that in Meadowvale we learn enough about the world to understand the story and are spared needless detail, and the questions that are left unanswered represent a pleasing level of intrigue.
Both my children and I are looking forward to further installments of the series.
The pacing in this story can be stilted, but I was always drawn on through to the inevitable confrontation. It is the mark of a burgeoning writer to find the right pace, the right words and the right tone for his or her story. But the mark of greatness in Meadowvale is the investment I was forced to give to these characters. I was intrigued by Jonathon's power, fearful for Werbel and Allison's fates, and constantly wanted to smack Jeremy upside the head. Rudolph has a gift for making his characters stay with you, long after the story is done.
Meadowvale overall has the feel of a world that is not yet fully explored, making this tale all the more tantalizing, much like JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. But the feel of this book more resonates with Brian Jacques Redwall series or the world building of Tamora Pierce. My recommendation would be to devour this book, relishing the high moments and wait in high anticipation for what promises to be the beginning of a wonderful adventure.
