Product Description
All Quiet on the Western Front tells the gripping story of a young German soldier on the Western Front of World War I. Paul and his comrades experience first-hand how the initial euphoria of war turns into desperation and fear as they fight for their lives, and each other, in the trenches. The film from director Edward Berger is based on the world-renowned bestseller of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque.

The only thing that was missing was insane amounts of aircraft bombing runs and artillery 24/7. You see troops reacting to the shelling but the audience doesn't really experience what they would of to fully understand the gravity of the situation.
Some of the subbing is off. My German is very very rusty, but at times you can hear someone swear and it's not properly translated.
So, what am I praising so much?
You start the film well in to WW1 when trench warfare hit peak stride and the casualties are mounting. A group of young German men enlist in what they think is a glorious and thrilling war that Germany will easily win. What is so great about this is the film shows you the reality all around them while they are getting ready to sign up but they are oblivious to it all.
I disliked 1917 because it was a shallow gimmick of a WW1 movie that spent most of it's time setting up one or two major set pieces and then shoe stringed the movie plot between them and it really sucked. This movie takes you on a journey from start to finish and you really appreciate the quieter moments between the soldiers.
The film is so well done it even shows you what led up to WW2.
This film is right at the front of the best war films and I strongly recommend it for anyone interested in historical/war films.
Unfortunately, we are still are searching for humans.
The video and audio on this 4k disc are reference quality.
Imagine a world populated by beings the same.
The story and subject is not easy to watch though, it is very heavy to witness. Not a movie one wants to watch over and over again.
I do think the movie could have been edited more though. The subject is very heavy and the movie is very, very long. It is not easy to digest images like this for an extended period of time.

1. Even better picture quality than with a high-quality streaming set-up. However this better quality is seen through my new Samsung OLED screen using a new Panasonic UB9000 player. Those with less high end viewing equipment may not see this difference as easily
2. Even better ATMOS sound quality with the same proviso as for the sound.
Now are these "even better" judgements big enough that they totally change the viewer's experience of the streaming Netflix version? It did for me, by a small amount but enough to be well worth the price - to me. Others may not feel the same way.
I believe that over time this film will become a classic, much in the same vein as "The Downfall" and "Das Boot". So if you are student of the film arts or a collector, buying this one is an easy decision.

Picture and sound on Blu Ray is exemplary
