I loved this book; it would make a great film.
But Do You Love Me With Locura is elegant and stylish. It’s a blend of a passionate love story with beautiful, thought-provoking writing.
Many scenes are vivid and memorable, and the author crafts metaphors like a boss. The story sets out cultural issues that gave me insights into life in small-town Mexico, and also into the heartbreaking struggles workers from Mexico encounter as they try to build lives in the US.
Readers with an interest in the Spanish language will find a delightful sprinkling of vocabulary (with definitions included).
The ending is perfect and completely satisfying. Highly recommend!

Now that I'm older and dumber, I mostly read trashy books with thrills and romance. This book, though not trashy, has both and so much more. Besides fascinating, struggling characters and beautifully and vividly described settings in Mexico and a southern California beach, it has family and personal conflicts.
In addition to the compelling plot and characters, the book has quirky language, like comparing barren hills to “rumps of brown horses.” More impressive, it poses philosophical questions like “life has a fatal way of doubling back on you if you scoff at what it hands you.”
Rosie Logan, a California journalist, is in Mexico to learn Spanish and becomes interested in the problem of women there deprived of birth control. Of course she meets a handsome, intelligent doctor. Do they fall in love? Do they have sex? If yes, which country do they choose to live in—with each pulled to his and her country? I won't tell you; you will have to read the book. If you read it, you will love it with "locura."
