    Dr. Glenn Livingston is the son of two therapists in a family of 20 psychologists, social workers, counselors, and therapists.  Shortly after getting his Ph.D. (from Yeshiva University at the Einstein Medical Campus in New York City) Glenn built a 65 person practice in approximately eighteen months, and has now worked with well over 1,000 clients.  

    When people's symptoms resolved, he invited them into his coaching practice until, five years later, he was working almost entirely as a coach, and also directly supervising other coaches and therapists.  But because he doesn't have children, thoroughly enjoys his work, and has never had to commute, Dr. Livingston launched a second career as a consultant, helping large companies like Whirlpool, Novartis, Bausch & Lomb, and Panasonic, evaluate psychological response to advertising.

    The fact that this book, and downloadable cheat sheets are free is surprising to me. It isn't perfect - the book is a bit wordy and would benefit from tighter editing, but the techniques seem sound and based on proven psychological principles.

    I absolutely hate that the author refers to his overeating impulse as "The Pig", as many reviewers have also commented. I realize this was just his approach, but it evokes a trauma response in me every time I read that word. If he could just use a less charged name for the alter ego, I suspect this approach would be much more palatable for many who will write this off as soon as they see the word "Pig" used so frequently in an a book about weight loss. Advocating for loving yourself while also referencing part of yourself as "a Pig who craves slop" just seems contradictory.

    Also, the format of the book isn't ideal for Kindle users - quotes highlighting key learnings are barely visible and the main text is hard to read on a Kindle device, but I opted to read (and highlight text) on my PC Kindle App which solved the problem. The free cheat sheets available on the DYC website are a big help.

    I'm going to give this approach a try because intermittent fasting and randomly giving up all the foods that I love hasn't worked for me and I'm desperate to end the binge cycle for good. But I will not be calling my alter ego "The Pig", that's for sure.

    This is a very different kind of weight loss book. It is obviously written by one who lived through defeating his "inner pig." If you struggle with cravings, the dialogue to get you to eat will be familiar. The tools to defeat this behavior won't cost you anything and have proven to be effective. YOU will be in control of your cravings if you apply the ideas in this book. Lots and lots of encouragement, downloadable extras (worksheets, audios) and an optional (free) support group for readers. It's a lot for the money! If you're motivated at all to defeat cravings, give this a try!

    I am a 71 year old professional woman who has struggled with binge eating since the age of 14. I have tried everything from diet pills, 12 Step Programs, therapy, diet books etc. I read Dr. Livingston's book on binge eating and enrolled into his program. I established a first rule around eating which was to eat 3 meals per day. I then added another rule which was to abstain from sugar. I also wrote an essay on why I wanted to be free of this binge eating disorder and how my life would be improved if I just ate 3 meals per day an abstained from sugar. I have lost over 25 pounds and no longer think that I have to look for another way to lose weight. I HAVE FOUND THE WAY THRU DR. LIVINGSTON'S PROGRAM. DO NOT LOOK ANYWHERE ELSE FOR A SOLUTION TO YOUR WEIGHT PROBLEM. Just be willing to write your boundaries, rules, and the reason that you want to be free of this issue in your life. Dr. Livingston, thank you so much for your book and your work in helping people like me. My life will never be the same and I am eternally grateful for your work and your willingness to share your knowledge and expertise with others. God Bless, JG

    I have lost way too much of my life perseverating on food. This book has given me the tools to make a chamge i have mot been able to in 45years. I have enjoyed two months of freedom and am getting stronger every day!
    I am greatful to Glen for his humility, perseveramce and willingness to share and help others succeed in regaining freedom from food slavery.

    I read this book for FREE ON Kindle but based on the impact it's had on me I would have gladly paid for it. I have struggled with disordered eating behaviors for 30 years. The method in this book changed how I think about food, cravings and binges. I have a sense of freedom with food that I've never had. In addition, the book is incredibly well written and the steps are so EASY to follow because of how he's written the information. Please give this book, or any of his books, a try. You don't have to keep suffering. There's hope!!!

    For those familiar with the theme of BED, this is a great and mature update of the original book written by this author on this theme. One has everything to gain and nothing to lose (except) accruing knowledge and wisdom and experience from this book. KUDOS to author!

    Prior to reading this book the longest I'd gone without eating my trigger foods, chocolate and cake was 23 days, after reading, it's been 6 weeks for the cake and over a month for the chocolate and counting. Even when I did have the chocolate it was a choice not an impulse and I quickly got back on track thanks to this book. In short it works and if you are having issues with binge eating , it will help.
