One of the main themes I took from this book is to stop aiming for perfection. It's much better to ensure we are showing up for ourselves in the "absence of desired external results," as the author puts it. The other topic of great importance to me in this book is having the ability to focus on one thing at a time. This book reinforces to me how important it is to set my highest priority. I used to feel guilty about not being able to spend as much time with family and friends as I would like or even being able to exercise as much as I wanted. My biggest priority is focusing on my business to achieve financial liberation and do the things that I want to do with my life without being told by a boss what to do. Going against this strong desire and disposition in order to confine myself to a life of normalcy slaving away from a 9-5 is unsatisfactory to me. It brings me extreme discomfort if I think of anything else but pursue these goals. The author pretty much points out that although extreme, you have to want success and achieve your goals as much as an unconditional loving mother going in to save her baby from a burning building. Trying to focus on too many things at once is a recipe for disaster, and the author truly helped me reevaluate what is important in life to ensure I'm doing what is in alignment with my goals and path

"Adult ADHD: Taming the Mental Chaos" is a game-changer for anyone wrestling with the challenges of ADHD. In its pages, you'll uncover a treasure trove of strategies designed to supercharge your concentration, memory, and overall mental clarity.

This book offers a lifeline to those seeking to break free from the overwhelming cycle of ADHD. With proven methods and simple yet powerful techniques, you can regain control over your thoughts and emotions, paving the way for a more focused and productive life.

One of the book's strengths lies in its comprehensive approach. It not only addresses the immediate hurdles posed by ADHD but also delves into the intricacies of managing emotions and harnessing their power for personal growth. By learning how to conquer anxiety and use it as a force for positive change, readers emerge with newfound confidence and resilience, ready to take on life's challenges.

In addition to its practical strategies and holistic approach, the book is a testament to the power of understanding and self-empowerment. It provides readers with the tools not only to cope with ADHD but to thrive in a world that often feels overwhelming. With "Adult ADHD: Taming the Mental Chaos," you're not just managing symptoms; you're embarking on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

The author starts out telling a story about being late to an important meeting. We all do that, right? But we don't all think, 2 minutes before the meeting starts, "I can still make it" when we're still at home and haven't gotten dressed yet. And yet those of us with ADHD can relate, because we've either done this exact thing or something just as ridiculous, perhaps even more so.

This book is short (which those of us with ADHD will appreciate) and the chapters are short and each one contains a practical exercise. I especially liked chapter 3 about creating systems and setting priorities, or rather, finding your priority, since it's technically impossible to have "priorities." There's the priority and then everything else. Systems have helped me control my ADHD. Things like using a calendar religiously (I'm actually staring at it right now on my second screen), having a daily routine, and setting habits (covered in the book—I also recommend Atomic Habits, Tiny Habits, and The Power of Habit).

Adult ADHD: Taming the Mental Chaos is a great resource for those who have adult ADHD. I love how the author, SS Leigh, emphasizes that ADHD is a disorder that has a spectrum. So one may have slight ADHD or they may have a more extreme type. That makes a lot of sense that there are varying degrees. Having always been an "energetic" child who has grown into a highly productive, energetic adult, I can see where I have some of these symptoms. I love how the author spends just enough of the beginning to lay the groundwork of what ADHD is and some of the causes. But most of the book is about moving forward and dealing with ADHD and organizing oneself so they may cope with and manage this condition. The workbook style is very helpful so you can immediately apply these ideas to yourself. This is very well done and anyone who has ADHD or thinks they may have it, will benefit from this book.

What I really loved throughout was the idea that people who experience ADHD are not broken, just different. As the mom of a teen who is quickly becoming an adult, I bought this book hoping for a look into her perspective. I have never heard the term "time blindness," but reading about it made everything make so much more sense.

There were a few spots where the tense jumped a bit, but taking the author's specific needs into consideration makes that seem like nothing.

There is a ton of practical advice smashed into this concise book. I really appreciated the author's personal stories because they paint everything in a different light than if this had just been a list of things you can do to help with your ADHD as an adult. Great book!

The author is a diagnosed person with ADHD. Only people who are afflicted with this condition can call themselves expert. There is an organization in Canada called CADDAC, and they are all experts. They are familiar with the author's work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective Guide For ADHD

First of I should flag that I do not have ADHD, so my review does not come from using this book as a personal guide, but instead as an educator of young adults with ADHD. For me this is a reference tool of steps I can use, or things I can help my students with. I found this a very human approach to ADHD and help me empathise with those with ADHD and increased my understanding of those with ADHD. Besides listing proactive steps and supports, it was also well referenced and clearly showed a lot of thought, care and consideration.
