At first I was not sure if it was just unable to connect or I was doing something wrong, which may have been the case. Then after reading reviews, I thought it was the power but I did not want to have a wire sticking out of it connecting to the PS2 for additional power.
Anyway, I saw that you can update the firmware. I updated this device and my 8bitdo controller, which they now work flawlessly together. No need for additional wires, the SCPH-50001 model was able to power it.
Great wireless freedom for the PS2.

Needs to be plugged into a powered USB source
Works fine quick response the only downside is you need a USB port to power it the controller Port alone doesn't have enough power I have both versions of the same device I have the original which has the micro USB on the side which makes it impossible even with the right angle adapter to plug in another controller because that one also needs to be powered by USB at least this one has the USB c on the front which makes it more convenient to plug in other controllers alongside of it also I had purchased the 8bitdo along with this controller adapter ( the 8-Bitdo seems to be just as responsive and does not need any other power sources to run it just plug it in to the controller port hit your scan once it links up to the controller that's it good to go) I have a PS4 controller that pairs well with either adapter but I do recommend the 8-Bitdo if you don't want to run an extra cord to the front of the adapter.. in my photo right to left it would be -okay( clear one) ,better( blue one) and best( grey one)
