Doesn't fit wide-mouth jars, watch out for water drips

Doesn't fit wide-mouth jars, watch out for water drips
This is an interesting concept. I have a bunch of mason jars that I've reused over the years and have used them to grow micro-greens, but usually just put a paper towel over the lid held in place with a rubber band. This seems like a little more reusable and better drainage solution.Unfortunately, it doesn't fit my wide-mouth jars. There's something wrong about the diameter or the threading that makes it not close properly. It can still be forced and mostly holds in place, but not a snug fit like it should be. The wide-mouth jars have been a common standard for decades now. It should fit better than this.I should note that it if it's placed with the lid partially down like shown in the product photos, that there will be water leakage. I recommend putting it somewhere that the water can drain out, or placing something underneath to catch the drops.

The idea of this was great so I decided to buy. The quart Mason jars I bought along with this did not fit this lid properly. Kind of frustrating as I know how to screw a lid on a jar. Lol The concept is great though and I still make this work.

Neither of the two lids provided fit any widemouth jar we have.
They are slightly too small, so you do not get a tight seal.
To you this means that the lid will either pop off (happened) or allow water to puddle in the lid, (not good)

It is however a cheap entry point into sprouting. Not for anyone who wants to really have a rotation

If you grow your own bean sprouts, then you understand proper drainage and airflow is necessary for the sprouts to grow. This version improves on the previous versions by integrating the stand into the lid. No more looking for the stand. and more importantly, no more stand that takes up room in your pantry. The stand is sturdy enough to hold a 32oz Mason Jar for propagation. The fact they double as carrying handles makes them even more useful.

An added benefit is that the holes are small enough to drain cold brew tea and coarse ground coffee. You just need a silicone lid to seal it against leaking flavor and to keep it watertight for when you need to shake the mixture.

I must be honest, here....I received my first set of these sprouting lids and was unbelievably disappointed because they did not screw onto my mason jars...the threads were not lined up correctly and I thought they were junk...I was all set to write a 1-star review and tell people to save their money.
However, I decided to return them and get replacements to see if the second set worked any better. Well, I am glad I did...the replacement set arrived 2 days later and both lids screwed onto my mason jars perfectly!
I love that my jars now stand up and easily drain off my sprouts without using any other apparatus. Also, because they are plastic, they do not rust like the screens I previously used. (Note: they do drain a bit slower than my other screens, but so far this has not been a problem). They fold down flat when not in use, so they easily fit in my drawer with my other mason jar lids. I just love them and I am now using them exclusively for my sprouts.

Side note: I have been a Vine member for almost a year and I give totally honest reviews. To earn 5 stars, the products I review have to be really well made, perform extremely well, and have a decent price point. I have no qualms coming back to revise my reviews if products fail to perform or turn out to be junk.

I purchased this lid so that I can make broccoli sprouts as opposed to purchasing sprouts daily. The lid worked however it was large than expected so I had to search for a jar to accommodate such a large lid.

I tried it on my mason jar and loved it but now I can't get it off. I've asked a couple strong men to help because I'm pretty weak but nobody can help me get this lid off my jar. I don't know what else to do, its very disappointing.

I'm happy to have these sprouting jar lids. Here's a list of the Good and the Not-So-Good.

Pros:
* The plastic is BPA free, is nice and thick, sturdy, and nice to touch and look at. Feels very strong and kitchen-friendly.
* The orientation, size, and number of drainage holes in the lid is perfect! Water drains through them quickly and fully. When I have it set upside down on my counter, it doesn't make a messy pool of water - it's easy to fully drain it in the sink first.
* I LOVE the draining stand! I love the way it holds the jar at a steady angle. It's a great function and it looks cool. Beyond that, I sometimes want to pour filtered water out of my Berkey filter directly into the jar through the closed lid. If I have the draining stand folded down on the lid, it serves to help keep the water from spilling onto the floor.
* It's a cute lid and it looks great on my counter with the sprouts in the jar.

CONS:
* Sometimes it's a little awkward screwing the lids onto the jars - they can get cross-thready.
* Often I have a hard time unscrewing the lid. I have to grip the jar in a dishtowel and twist. Sometimes I have to grip both the jar AND the lid in a dishtowel and twist in opposite directions. I get scared that I'll lose my grip and my glass jar will shatter on the floor. Hasn't happened so far. I try not to over-screw, but sometimes when my sprouts grow big and fast, it seems like they add pressure that makes the lids a little resistant to unscrewing.
* Sprouts get stuck in the jar threads and it takes extra effort to clear them out. Oh well.

Overall, these lids are good quality and fun! Fun is important in sprouting!
