Strength training is very important for older adults and this book explains why, and how to start a simple program. It is easy to read and understand. All exercises are shown with simple illustrations and good descriptions. A plan for nutrition is also included in this book - it covers all the bases. It is helpful to have prior strength training experience, but not necessary. If a person needs more instruction than this book offers it would be easy to have a trainer at a local fitness center help with the moves, as they are all common weightlifting exercises, or to look on YouTube for more thorough explanations. You're never too old to begin strength training and this book can help you do that. Big thumbs up!!

Randy Martin really took the time to ensure that this work was well done and easy to understand. The break down in the book of the how and why it was lined out the way it is and how much science went into ensuring the protocols worked well for generational wellness enthusiasts is outstanding. Dr. Martin walked the reader through each phase of the PACE method and WHY the PACE method allows for a natural progression. This book definitely allows for any senior to improve their overall healthy and wellness and really hits the mark for taking senior fitness to the next level.

I worked out & lifted weights until life became "too busy" with family & work responsibilities. My plan was to return to working out & fitness after I retired. In my opinion this book has everything you need to know to get started and change your life ..... as long as you follow what is discussed.

I definitely appreciate the approach of this book. Each chapter identifies what you will learn, how to do it, and ends with a summary recap of the "need to know" from the chapter. This book is exceptionally well organized.

Many times "fitness" for seniors only targets using light dumbbells. This book details how to get started with common items you have at home. It also discusses core strength and balance, which in my opinion are very important to the health of seniors. Lacking core strength and balance, any a fall, can start a serious permanent decline in what you can do and you are overall health. (I recently saw a long-term friend working in his yard, using a long handled tool as a cane. He told me he now needs that force ability as he has lost core strength, and balance skills. I also attended the funeral of another friend this week that fell about five months ago and that started his health declined and demise.)

I think enough of this book as I am personally contacting friends and relatives that are my age and recommend that they make time to review this book and start to change their fitness habits while they still have time.

Let me begin by suggesting a valuable tip: Read this book with three differently colored highlighters! Why? Because you can use one for highlighting the HEALTH BENEFITS that you want. A second one for THE ACTIONS TO TAKE to gain those benefits. And a third one for the many excellent points that will help deepen your MOTIVATION for getting started and sticking with it!

Question: But what if some of us are facing negative health hurdles? What then? The author has not forgotten us! Provided are plenty of illustrated exercises to choose from for finding the ones we CAN begin with.

Additionally, the book provides a method called PACE that further helps us navigate and trust the best exercises for us. FYI: PACE stands for Purpose, Assess, Control and Enjoy. (It all makes sense when you read chapter 3!)

In conclusion... although there are so MANY great points made in this book, let me quote a sentence from the author, "Strength training is not just about building muscles---it's about building a stronger, more vibrant version of yourself."

Wouldn't you like to "unlock vitality, resilience, joy"? I would! And this book not only offers you a huge dose of HOPE that you can have those benefits, but also offers you a clear road map with excellent instructions to attain exactly that!

Now let me get back to my highlighting!

I’m 62, and this book has a lot of great useful information for a person like me

I like the book because of its approach to strength training for whatever age you are. I'm a senior and looking to improve my strength, flexibility and fall prevention. Unfortunately there is a common misconception that once you reach a certain age, exercising is not an option. I don't believe it, never did, and this book is a great start on that journey. It is not only illustrated with exercises and the proper way to do them, there are some really good recipes in the book as well. Just as exercise needs change, so does nutrition. Every little bit helps. And this book is helpful.
