I definitely appreciate the approach of this book. Each chapter identifies what you will learn, how to do it, and ends with a summary recap of the "need to know" from the chapter. This book is exceptionally well organized.
Many times "fitness" for seniors only targets using light dumbbells. This book details how to get started with common items you have at home. It also discusses core strength and balance, which in my opinion are very important to the health of seniors. Lacking core strength and balance, any a fall, can start a serious permanent decline in what you can do and you are overall health. (I recently saw a long-term friend working in his yard, using a long handled tool as a cane. He told me he now needs that force ability as he has lost core strength, and balance skills. I also attended the funeral of another friend this week that fell about five months ago and that started his health declined and demise.)
I think enough of this book as I am personally contacting friends and relatives that are my age and recommend that they make time to review this book and start to change their fitness habits while they still have time.
Question: But what if some of us are facing negative health hurdles? What then? The author has not forgotten us! Provided are plenty of illustrated exercises to choose from for finding the ones we CAN begin with.
Additionally, the book provides a method called PACE that further helps us navigate and trust the best exercises for us. FYI: PACE stands for Purpose, Assess, Control and Enjoy. (It all makes sense when you read chapter 3!)
In conclusion... although there are so MANY great points made in this book, let me quote a sentence from the author, "Strength training is not just about building muscles---it's about building a stronger, more vibrant version of yourself."
Wouldn't you like to "unlock vitality, resilience, joy"? I would! And this book not only offers you a huge dose of HOPE that you can have those benefits, but also offers you a clear road map with excellent instructions to attain exactly that!
Now let me get back to my highlighting!
