5.0 out of 5 stars Simply a great bag. Designed and built well. A pocket for everything, and great for organization. Possibly water resistant?
By Steve on August 19, 2016
This is a really great backpack. If you don't want to read a long review, that is all you need to know.

This might be a little weird to admit, but I really like "Things that hold things," Cases, boxes, bags, backpacks, etc. I am very happy to say that this might be my favorite day backpack that I have ever owned. It is impeccably well designed. It is good looking yet subtle, and you can tell that someone (or a group of people) really put effort in to thinking about how people would use the bag.

I've been lusting after this bag for a while now. Ever since I purchased my eBags Mother Lode Mini 21" Suitcase. I really dig that suitcase, and this backpack sat in my wish list for months. I finally purchased it on sale on prime day, but after having it for a couple weeks I realize that I should have just purchased it when I wanted it. This thing great.

This is a list of most of the things that I like about this bag:

- The overall design aesthetic. It's not flashy, but looks good. It could very easily be something carried by a professional or by a student. I do travel a lot. In my line of work, I don't need to dress in a suit and tie every day, but this bag looks right with that too. I also really like that the inside of the bag is orange. I cant really explain it, but lots of the stuff that I own, bags, computer cases, electronics, etc, are completely black and like it that way. Having the inside of this bag be orange feels slightly "Rebellious". I've actually had people comment about it.

- The many different storage pockets. They vary in shapes, sizes, construction, and location on either the inside or outside of the bag. I seriously feel that I can do anything with these pockets. Everything that has a pocket needs one.

- The little bottom cubby/compartment. This thing... I thought it would be the gimmick of the bag when I ordered it, but man is it great. I use it to store all or most of the wires I take with me. It varies, but I've loaded up this cubby with a 45w Macbook charger, an 85w macbook charger, a phone charger, a tablet charger, and a couple other USB cables. It's awesome that I can remove the hard case and have all my cables in one container. If I need more space in the physical bag, the hard case can be removed and it's "cavity" just disappears. How cool is that?

- How much room there is. My previous go to bag was almost 1800 cubic inches, huge, and most of that was just one large cavity, like a small hiking bag. I could live out of that bag for 5 days easy if I really had to. I was worried that with this bag I would struggle to adjust to the smaller bag. So far, though, this hasn't been a problem. I use this bag for two purposes. Just regular days in my city, and travel. For a regular day, I have my 11" Macbook Air plus a graphed legal pad in the back pocket. A lunch in my eBags Slim lunch box in the main compartment, plus gym clothes. In the front pocket I have a power bank, a computer mouse, pens, a USB hub, and more. In the front pocket with the vertical zipper I keep a micro toiletry kit. When I travel fully loaded, I carry my 11" Macbook air, my 15" Macbook Pro retina, my 9.7" iPad, all of the chargers for those things, plus the same legal pad, at least one change of clothes in the backpack, a portable speaker, plus all the small stuff that I carry in the city too. This bag handles all of that no problem. Impressive.

- The water bottle holder is not large enough to fit my 40oz hydroflask, but that is fine because I never carry that in a bag anyway, and it is too big for all but hiking backpacks. That is okay, though, because that pocket is perfect for my sunglasses case and a small thing of hand sanitizer.

- I love that the backpack straps can be tucked away and the bag can be carried like a briefcase with a handle on the side. Sometimes I don't want a backpack, and this solves that problem.

- Similarly, I love how all the straps, pockets, and features can be stashed away and hidden to keep them from flapping around and getting in the way. Don't need the water bottle pouch? Zip it up and it's gone. Don't want straps? they have a spot to tuck in to. The two grab handles (one on top and one on the side) recess flat against the sides of the bag when not in use. No faffing around with annoying straps while you're running through the airport trying to catch a flight.

- This bag just feels *solid.* I really try not to beat hard on my stuff, but I do use it constantly. After two years of front line service, my previous bag (a Griffith Park Deluxe) was starting to show some serious wear. I've had this bag for only about a month at this point, and it's been to three countries, eight states, and traveled 18000 miles. From how tough this bag feels I feel confident that it will last me at least as leg as the old bag, probably much longer.

For now, those are the thoughts I have about the bag. Right now I don't have anything bad to say. I've only had it for a month, so I will most definitely be updating this review more.

First edit, 9/8/16: Yesterday I was caught in an unexpected torrential downpour. It took me a long time to get somewhere where I could really take cover, as I was walking home through a residential area with no stores or building that I could go in to get out of the rain. I was in a torrential downpour for nearly 10 minutes. When I did get home, I was soaked to the bone. It was a really serious storm, at the worst you could not see 25 feet ahead through the rain, and road drains were overflowing for hours afterwards. After changing in to dry clothes, I walked over to the bag fearing that everything inside would be dripping wet. My laptop, My iPad, my pilot logbook, lots of valuable stuff. Imagine my surprise when I opened up this bag to discover that there was no wetness in the inside of this bag that I could detect at all. Even around the zippers, the only damp part was the little bits of grey fabric trim that go underneath the zipper tracks, and they were just barely damp around the top. I totally emptied the backpack and felt around. No wetness anywhere. On the outside, the exterior fabric had already mostly dried, the only thing that was still wet after 20 minutes was the back padding on the outside, but this dried after an hour of sitting in front of a fan.

I am super impressed. eBags does not mention anywhere that this bag is waterproof or water resistant anywhere on amazon or on their website. I knew that before getting this bag and before getting caught in the storm, and thought I was out of luck in regards to the electronics in my bag, but the fact that this bag handled the torrential rain so well is a testament to how much this thing rocks. No complaints so far.

Second Update: September 7th, 2017: I've been using this bag every day for more than one year now. I still am as much in love with it as I was when I initially wrote this review. This is the longest period of time that I have ever used one bag as my every day bag. I have been rough with this bag for a whole year, and The bag is still in brand new condition except for the bite marks one of the adjustment straps that my dog got to, which is no fault of the bag. I still highly recommend this bag.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broken after 6 months...
By Eric on March 11, 2017
I really liked this bag.

It has very useful compartments - the laptop compartment, tablet compartment and accessories all made a lot of sense. I have a Surface Pro 4 and an Lenovo Thinkpad T460s. It can handle both and made everything very organized for me. I was looking for a cost effective bag that is compact, a backpack, but can still look professional when I go to clients due to my line of work. This WAS the perfect bag - it's L-zips made it also taking laptops and SP4 at airport security checkpoints a breeze.

So why the 1 star?

I read a couple of reviews before purchasing that areas in the bag easily got frayed. And now, unforfunately, with only just light use for less than 6 months - the left shoulder strap is frayed and almost about to fall off. I have no idea how it started fraying, but I certainly used the bag just for light travel in the subway, once a month for travel. I also work from home at least once a week, so I don't use this everyday. So I am very disappointed that something relatively priced would be broken in 6 months. Yes, this isn't a Tumi, and I had considered buying a Tumi over this, but it's also not a very cheap bag either. Photos attached.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Mobile Office
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 16, 2018
I bought this bag to replace the overpriced and disappointing Incase Icon Slim as my every day work bag in the hope it would make my professional life more organised.
I’m delighted to report that after years of searching I have found the perfect EDC bag for me.
This short review is based on around 5 months of use rather than first impressions.
Firstly this is not one of these cavernous backpacks much loved by millennials which can hold the total physical contents of their minimalist lifestyle and fit in the overhead locker of the plane they are travelling to the next impossibly beautiful destination in.
It is instead a well laid out work horse of a bag where I store the necessities of my professional life.
I live and work in the UK but rather than travel to one office I work from a handful of locations travelling mainly on trains and planes.
The eBag allows me to store everything I need in one place so I never have to worry about having forgotten some crucial item. My days of leaving my work ID/keycard in another coat are behind me!
It has plenty zipped internal pouches, pen loops, slots, etc to exceed my needs. However this fixed storage and padding does come at the price of making the bag less cavernous as I eluded to before.
This for me was not an issue as I do no want an overstuffed day bag that is heavy and I cannot find anything in.
This is the first bag I have owned with the L opening configuration. I was unsure how well this would work in the beginning, but can report I have experienced no issues with it in daily use.

My personal response to criticism seen elsewhere;
- The zippers are all bunched together when closed making it difficult to open the one you want easily.
- Yes they are quite bunched up. That said I can be intolerant and predisposed to launching things that annoy me across the room and this has never really been an issue.
- Lack of adequate weather proofing
- I think this boils down to use and expectation. I live in Scotland where we get our fair share of rain, but I wouldn’t consider this bag for hiking in all weathers. I’ve been caught out with a couple of heavy showers for short periods with no issues and even on days where I am out in rain longer and using my umbrella the bag has been wet with not noticeable leakage into the inner compartments. I would suggest if you walk for miles in the rain to get to your office, you could but one of those backpack rain covers?
- Too much padding/lack of capacity
- Generally you can only have one or the other so make your choice. That said, I can easily carry everything I need for a normal day in the office as well as room for a change of clothes for an overnight business trip (I pack light so we are talking a clean shirt, underwear and toiletries. I have a larger bag for any more than one night or if I will be socialising and need different clothes)
I have attached a photo to show what I carry in it most days

3.0 out of 5 stars High quality bag, but main compartment zips vulnerable to rain
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 8, 2019
I really didn't want to one star this bag as overall it's a high quality item that does everything I want it to do; however, I can't wrap my head around one aspect of the design, this being the zips.

Edit: I wrote this review about a week ago and am looking at it with a clearer head, and although I still can't justify a high star rating, I feel that I was rather unfair with the one-star rating. It would need a good downpour to let water in and it's no worse than a lot of other bags. I still stand by my comment (below) of the closed zip placement and the need of a storm flap, but together with a newly purchased rucksack cover this is now a workable bag in the rain. So, am changing to three stars due to the quality of the bag.

I get that the bag is water resistant (not waterproof), and I wouldn't expect it to be water tight in a torrential downpour, but why oh why are the zips for the two main compartments configured to be at the top of the bag when closed, leaving potential access to rain. Why couldn't the zips be configured to be at the bottom of the bag when closed, or maybe even have some kind of protective flap over them? There are double edges under the zips but I want water to be stopped before it gets into the bag. It seems strange to me that the compartments that will tend to contain electrical items and books (none of which are good with water) inside them have this baked-in weak point to water ingress.

Because of the lack of confidence I have in the bag when it's raining, I'm left with the choices of; not using it, transferring everything to a different bag when it's wet, or getting a rain cover, none of which are ideal.

For me, the bag is 99% perfect for me, and in dry weather I'm as happy as a happy clam, but in the wet I have no confidence that my kit will be protected, which to me is a big disappointment.
