So my plan was to take this cord and plug it into my laptop, which has a hdmi port, and then connect it to a vga monitor. Now after reading reviews and the product description I was convinced it would work, but it did not.

Now listen carefully. This cord is meant to be used in two cases.
1)If your PC has a HDMI port and you wish to connect it to a VGA monitor/tv, then you need to check if your PC's HDMI port supports ANALOG output.
2)If your PC has a VGA port and you wish to connect it to a HDMI monitor/tv, then you need to check if your PC's VGA port supports DIGITAL output.

If your PC doesn't support these outputs then you will need:
In case 1) a digital to analog converter. In case 2) a analog to digital converter. Which both can be found here on amazon anywhere from $15 to $50.

The cord does work wonders if your situation falls into case 1) or 2). I give it 4 stars only because of the vagueness of the product description. I hope i helped you all out!

I'm not mad. Let me stop lying. I was pissed when I tried to do dual screens on my pc and my monitor connected to the vga to hdmi would not boot up. I was tripping, demanding refunds and all that other crap. My own ignorance made a big fool out of me! You need a converter to get this cord to work. If you want to do dual screens, try buying a DVI-HDMI. I bought one for $7.99 and guess what? I HAVE DUAL SCREENS! So, let me give the cord the credit it deserves. It probably works, hell I would not be surprised if it worked better than any other cords I've purchased. It's not the cords fault I was too dumb to know that it would not work without a converter. Instead of sending it back, I'm going to go ahead and keep it. I may need it someday.

After searching around for a PC cable in the hopes of connecting my PC with my TV I came across this cord and decided to try it out. When it arrived I plugged it in and thankfully it was working. I now have a computer connected to my TV upstairs and my wife uses it to look up information or styles when doing her make up or hair. Sometimes she just has it on to listen to music. Im just happy that I was able to find the cord Ive been looking a long time for.

known fact that just because your tv has a HDMI 1-3 hook up, doesn't mean this cord will work for you :)

Ok, so I'm really not all the tech savvy, so I figured it'd be really easy to just get a cable that runs from my laptop to my pc ready tv... someone told me that all I needed was a VGA to HDMI cable. This is wrong. VGA is an anolog signal plug, whereas HDMI is digital. VGA is also graphic signal only, so your sound will have to come from your computer speakers. You will also have to reset all of the video settings on both your tv and pc to make them agree with each other.
If you are not very good at fiddling with these settings, i'd recommend you stick with what you've got... or pay the few extra dollars and get a tv conversion box for your pc. That will save many headaches.

This was a rather naive purchase for me. At the time I was looking to to dual monitor, my graphics card at the time only supported two VGA ports. I had a TV that I planned to use as a second screen and it only had an HDMI port, no VGA. So rather than drop several hundred on a new graphics card, I opted for this much MUCH cheaper option. While it is my own fault for not investigating the type of cable fully, I can agree with this other review on this particular item - there should be a clear statement in the description for what this is used for and to deter people from making the mistake of thinking it works for this purpose.

"They should have a disclaimer letting you know that VGA to HDMI is not possible simply through a cable. VGA is an analog output, whereas HDMI is a digital output. Without some kind of converter between the two it doesn't work. So a cable that has VGA on one end and HDMI on the other end will not do what you think it will do.

I'm sure there must be some use for this cable, but I don't know what it is. Don't buy it if you're trying to convert VGA signal to HDMI signal."

I originally gave this only 3 stars because it was not clear that this item works only as a VGA to HDMI and not HDMI to VGA. I needed this to work from my HDMI out on my laptop to the VGA input on my monitor and it did not. When I contacted the seller, they informed me that the cable should have worked as HDMI to VGA or VGA to HDMI and they were going to replace it at no cost but the cable was out of stock so they gave me a refund. I am updating my review to 5 stars for their excellent customer service!!!

I use this to attach my video output on my computer to my TV. Keep in mind that just because the output is HDMI, doesn't mean you will have sound. You will have to work something out with the sound by using the 3.5mm headphone jack to your stereo or external speakers or something. As a video cable, this works great. Great for people with slightly older laptops without the HDMI output built in.
