*** Update from a previous 3 star rating ***
We bought this as an alternative to leaving our porch light on all the time. It produced a strong light and motion sensor worked as expected, however after 3.5 months, it stopped worked. The return period already ended so we contacted the seller looking for help with trouble shooting the issue because we actually liked the product. Brian responded in a day and let us know he was shipping out a replacement and included a return shipping label. WOW!! That's the kind of service that every company should provide. So even though it was 3 stars initially because of the unexpected malfunction, we feel confident in bumping up the rating because of how this seller really stands behind their product and customers.

OK, so let me start this out with: I have mine located on the North/NorthWest side of my house, so the poor thing is already having an uphill battle with Winter Sunshine. Then, we have had many, many weeks of gloomy weather, which is rare in South Texas. But THIS LITTLE GUY IS AMAZING!

I want a little light to illuminate the exit from our screen porch, where the dogs go in/out. It does this wonderfully! The "night light" option is EXACTLY what I was looking for... and the "flood light" is more than I had expected.

This product is perfect for what I was searching. I want something to run all night, with just a little light so I can see if there is something (skunks!) near the back door BEFORE I let the dogs out, and IF something is milling around, it is clearly highlighted by the motion sensor's flood light!

I have mine set to Super Sensitivity because I want it to Flood when something little (skunk!) or the dogs are near it.

It has adjustments for sensitivity and flood duration, so it is fully customizable for your application. If you don't want it to pop on for dogs, but something larger (intruder) then you can set that - or if you are like me and want it to alert you to smaller critters, it can do that, too!

I've been warned that the Smaller Critter Setting will drain my solar storage over night, but I have not experienced that issue. It charges up enough during the day (even with our gloomy Winter weather this year) to run as a night-light all night and is ON in the mornings when I am up and headed to work.

Now, all of the above said -- because of the placement that I want, I had to install a small portion of 2"x4" behind my unit, to get him out past the edge of the shingles so he could charge up sufficiently.

I love this self contained solar light/panel. Light & panel are both contained in one unit, making it easy to install & not cumbersome looking. At night is decently bright (maybe a 60W bulb). I have many solar lights on my 20 acre property some costing up to $150 each. This one is my favorite, however...

however...please look at the picture of this product. Since the solar panel & the light are self contained, you must install it in a way that the solar panel is facing the sun & hopefully the direction of the light is where you need it. You cannot alter the light vs. the panel position, therefore this unit will probably have very limited applications. I would purchase more units but typically I need the light to shine in a direction that puts the solar panel in a low sun gathering position.

Otherwise this light seems solidly built & is bright enough to light an area maybe 20' X 20".

I bought 2 to place at the back of the house and one won't turn on at all. The other turns on and works as it should for the first few times. I come back a few hours later and it won't turn on when I'm moving around right it front of it. I've tried messing with the sensitivity setting also. I have to select the other on position for it to light up.. then a few hours later again, it won't work.. again. Returning both.

Update 8/14/13:
I did figure out that one of the two does work after testing further. What I didn't realize was that it has a light sensor that disables the motion sensor if it thinks there's enough ambient light. Very smart! So I left it in a closed area in the basement and tested it a couple times and even left it over night. Each time I checked, it turned on as it "saw" me.

The other wouldn't work at all still so I'm guessing it came defective.

I ordered 2 more and returned the defective one.

I'm changing my opinion on this up to 4 stars for a couple of reasons. 1-they work well when they're not broken. 2-the communication I received from the seller after posting my review has been a very positive experience.

I purchased this device here on Amazon the other day after seeing its overall rating and reading reviews, and I was thoroughly impressed with the company's stance behind their products and willingness to support customers having issues/defective items. Ultimately, I think that's the #1 reason why I bought it, because it is a tad bit on the expensive side.

I've also posted a video on YouTube showing the light off, as there is hardly anything available, and the videos I found which seem to be posted by EESGI aren't very good quality. Here: http://youtu.be/Ui7dZ88-gqI

But anyway, the images posted here on Amazon are deceptive. Even in full flood mode, they're not quite as bright as indicated in the photos. The exposure level had to of been out of balance, causing the lights to appear much brighter than it really was, however, the light is still plenty bright.

I don't have a light checker, so I can't definitively measure how many lumens it really was, but if I had to guesstimate, I would say that in full flood mode, this thing around 700 lumens or so. That's roughly around your standard homeowner florescent light bulb that most are now using in their homes -- which is just fine if you're wanting to knock the blackness out in an area you have concerns about.

Overall, I'm happy with what I've seen so far with this product. I've only had it for a day, so we'll see how well it holds up. If it continues to hold up well, I may add some more to the house.

I really liked the "dusk-to-dawn" feature, which puts the light in a dimmed power saving mode, and would allow me use this as a form of accent lighting on the house, but still allows it to go into Flood mode if motion is detected. I really want to buy 3 or 4 more, but just not sure that I'm prepared to spend that kind of money just yet, but we'll see.
