BE AWARE the latest 2013 ePhoto Sand Bags are of LOWER QUALITY

I've purchased these back in January 2013 and they were as in their product photos and stood up to the reviews as being outstanding bags for the money. They had grey handles and the stitching and material were great! I just purchased another set from the SAME seller ePhotoInc in July 2013 and the quality has dropped drastically. The handles are also black now and the stitching is not very well done. The material quality also dropped. I just wanted everyone to be aware that the past reviews do not reflect the current ePhoto Sand Bags that you will be getting to be aware.

Purchased 4 sets of 4 bags in 9/2014, 10/2014 and 2 in 8/2015, a total of 16 sand bags.of these 4 remain in serviceable condition, but only because the final four were removed from service and left in a storage closet by March 2016. Each was fitted with a pair of 1 gallon size Hefty freezer zip bags filled with 6lbs sand for a total of 12lbs per fabric unit. The freezer bag was zipped and then the fabric bag.inner and outer zippers.
The failures are predictable and identical. the fabric will part along a single thread breaking all the crossing threads. eventually the polyethylene freezer bag stretches and parts where its unsupported. Initially the failures were presumed due to rough handling, failed nylon bags were replaced and the sand moved into a new freezer bag. handling them as carefully as camera bags didn't make any difference. its a fabric problem. There were no zipper failures, but the technique used kept them clean and grit-free.

This product does exactly what it is suppose to do. Grant you with sand in the bags they can become very heavy so if you are using three bags like I do per lighting stand you need to put the right amount of sand in each one or it will become too heavy and damage the stand. I cannot attest if the sand does or doesn't leak out as for me as a precautionary method I put the sand in zip locks and then put the zip locks with sand in the bags. Love that the bags have handles so you can easily move and place it. I haven't had one stand damaged by using them or fall over and it has been windy at times. These are not cheap but worth the price for what they do. I have been using these for three years now with no problems.

Alright, so we got these a few days ago. Went to use them and two of four zippers broke within the first five minutes, and four would have broken if we had tried all of them; cannot zip the inner zipper because it's not made properly; the zipper-teeth were not sewn in correctly and won't line up. It's this way on all four bags. Amazingly poor workmanship.

I've been using a pair of these for two years now and they've been great. No leaks or signs of anything coming apart. The material, stitching, and zipper are all top notch, and have seen their fair share of abuse.

I've taken to filling mine with gravel. A 50 pound bag of all-purpose gravel costs $6 and is enough to fill 4 bags, and it's enough weight to keep my reflector from tipping over outside, and to keep my background stands steady, yet not so heavy that I need a separate trip to carry each bag onto the set.

I haven't used the blue/yellow stripey bags... I'm not sure what the difference in construction is, but I do know that these are pretty much perfect, and it would take some serious abuse to get them to fail, so just go ahead and buy them already.

Not sure if this item has changed its quality control standards or what. I briefly read some of the reviews and couldn't believe they were reviewing the same product I received. I began filling the first bag with sand the bags have an internal and external zipper. When I completed the first fill, leaving enough room to easily close with the zipper, the internal zipper came off. So not to be discouraged, I began zipping the external zipper, same outcome and I was applying virtually no force. Casting that little jewel aside, I went through the process with the second, same outcome. I took all four and threw them in the trash. I use Amazon extensively and almost never have any bad outcomes with their products. This piece of crap is definitely the exception.

Durable lightweight inexpensive

Dual zipper pouches on both sides. The carry strap goes on both side so no matter how the bag is laying you can grab it. I don't recommend manipulating the strap so both are on the same side as that puts all the stress on the stitching that hold the strap to the bag. If you fully load tithe bag with dense weight like lead shot or nuts and bolts, it could weigh about 20 lbs. if both straps are pulling on the stitching eventually it will fail.

Put whatever you use for weight inside a gallon heavy duty freezer ziplock bag before putting that inside the zipper pouches.

Made of durable thick nylon material. If you don't throw them around they will last a good long time.

Rec'd these promptly..They appear sturdy as they are made with somewhat heavy cloth material I took the advice of another reviewer and placed the sand in sandwich bags..I used gallon zip lock bags, filled to about half full, folded over, pressed all of the air out and placed in the pouch of the sand bag... These bags have 2 zippers which is great also...A zipper on the pouch containing the baggie of sand and an outside zipper..Great way to do this so, even if the zip lock bag burst/rips open, no sand is spilled ..!Almost foolproof..!Two of the zippers "handles" broke , but I just put them back on with a screw driver and pliers...Overall, great buy...!
