Its far from a softbox. I actually did some tests started running this brolly box at full, 1/2 1/4 and so on and then ran just a normal shoot through. This brolly box produced a very hard light at full as well as 1/2 and despite there being little to no light loss from the rear of the umbrella, the lead was certainly not soft, at all. Ran a normal shoot through and the light was softer due to its ability to allow light falloff out the back. This guy is being sent back, its just not for me. Instead I will be getting the CL Umbrella softbox which is a more efficient and correctly setup diffuser than this being that the light is bounced off the back, silver surface, and then diffused on its way out the bottom of the umbrella. All this said, its not for me, but that doesnt mean its not for everyone. Depends on what your looking for and many other things.

One thing I can say for sure is if you are needing it in a hurry ephoto is right on top of it. I've ordered a lot from amazon from lots of different sellers and ephoto was by far the fastest at getting the product out. This brolly box works great for what its supposed to do. I would reccommend it to any photography enthusiast.

At first I was hesitant to order this item but after I have used it as my main light, I was so amazed how the light were spread out evenly. I am using a canon 580EXII with 1/8 power but the light is still very effective. I recommend this to anybody loves to have a home studio.
