Cheap, low ripple, but with a loud fan and over-rated output.

This seems to be a decent cheap power supply if you need a good amount of current up to 20A or so. But it has a loud fan and I do not believe can actually handle 30A except for short periods.Hooked it up to a scope both under load @ 24A, and no-load to see what the startup/shutdown and ripple is like; Overall it seems decent, there's very little difference under load vs no-load which is good and total ripple seems to be less than ~400mV even at 24A draw with very little voltage sag.There appear to be 2 main frequencies present on the output ripple, ~50kHz and ~625kHz.With no load there's a bit of a spike on startup with voltage going about ~1.5V higher than the setpoint briefly before it stabilizes, but that shouldn't be an issue, under load the voltage rises smoothly to the setpoint. Shutdown looks good either way with no spikes or weird things happening.For the bad stuff:The fan is very loud, and is on/off style with ON being around 45C and OFF being around 40C, there is no speed control, and the thermal switch is simple sitting inside the main inductor in the supply and is not bonded to anything in any way.Sitting idle with a small load the fan cycles on every 5-10 minutes for a few seconds each time.Under 24A test load there is a light smell of overheating electronics, I so far have not been able to locate where it is coming from but I would not go over 20A draw on this unit, the 30A rating is extremely optimistic and would be for short pulses only.Alternatives:If you want something that is better quality and with better components and quality control, the Mean Well RSP-320-12 is a great option, much cleaner output, and a temperature controlled variable speed fan.

It works

I'm no pro, but it works so far. I haven't done any major usage, but it didn't seem to get hot at all after a few minutes of testing. Running the tried and true 1100 watt boss, and 10" pioneer shallow mount. It didn't have any issues pushing it at the medium volume I tested at. Can't say for max volume, but I don't plan on running it wide open anyway. For the price it's a no brainer.
