Installing an ecobee thermostat is an easy process that takes about 45 minutes. If you’re lacking a C wire you can install the included Power Extender Kit (PEK) at your furnace control board and wire it in with your existing thermostat wires to create a C-Wire.

COMPATIBLITY

ecobee thermostats are compatible with most 24-volt residential heating and cooling systems, including gas, oil, electric, and dual-fuel systems. The majority of ecobee thermostat owners can power their thermostat with the common wire (C wire) or the included Power Extender Kit (PEK).

Slightly annoying to install

If you know what you’re getting into, installing this thermostat isn’t too difficult at all. I have a Goodman AC system from 2022 and this turned into a several hour long installation because my wiring isn’t as simple as the installation videos online make it seem. The common wire is required to power this device. Not Ecobee’s fault. Connecting to WiFi was extremely easy, Ecobee has a nice step by step setup guide directly in the unit and app. The builtin features like RH and local weather are really helpful, but the power saving features are my favorite. Easy to link to Apple HomeKit home app. This item has a nice modern look. RH seems fairly accurate +/-5°F. Totally worth every penny!

This is our first wifi enabled thermostat so we have nothing to compare it to but we really like it! I feel it has perfect accuracy in temperature. It feels very high quality and luxurious to the touch. Great product. My husband installed it so I can’t speak on that. It took him around an hour to install it. Also please excuse the ugly wall it’s mounted to. Our house is in the process of remodeling.

I recently moved to a house with a two-stage furnace, which was new to me. This house also had a Nest thermostat already installed. I was finding the Nest algorithm for stage 2 heating was not working well. It would push the furnace too quickly into stage 2 then it would quickly turn off once the target temperature was hit in the living room where the Nest was installed, leaving the rest of the house too cold. (And, stage 2 in this house is ridiculously loud!) Nest gives the user no ability to adjust how it tells the furnace to use stage 1 or stage 2; it is a "black box" algorithm to the homeowner.

Having had experience at my prior house with an older ecobee, I figured this was the next option to consider. I did some research and found that, while ecobee does have a two-stage algorithm like Nest, it also supports much more user configuration in the Installation Settings on the actual thermostat. By setting the stage 1 to stage 2 differential to 4 degrees, I am now able to prevent stage 2 from kicking in unless really needed, like when coming up to the Home temperature after being Away. (I actually added another comfort setting called "Waking Up" in between Sleep and Home to bring the temperature up 2 degrees before going the next 3 degrees to the Home setting; this generally keeps the furnace in stage 1 which makes for a more consistent temperature throughout the house.)

The new model has a nicer screen than the older model I had, and the software on the unit/phone/PC is all intuitive and easy to use. Installation for me was simple -- like 10 minutes -- because I already had a 6-wire line set with the C-wire.

Overall, I highly recommend this ecobee.

Easy but patience

I love this thing… However, I have to admit… I had a deer in the headlights moment when I open the box and I found a second small device with wires coming out of it… There was nothing that really talked much about it other than it had to do something with people who don’t have common… So after poking around for a while, it finally occurred to me that Google was the answer.

As a result, I ended up learning that while I did not have a common running up to the thermostat there is a common available at the furnace itself… And luck be with me… There was an extra wire that I could purpose for the Common…

I hooked the whole thing up and it works great using the new Common… And I did not have to use the Adapter

The only other thing that threw me a little bit to HomeKit… I literally tore the package apart and was scanning all sorts of things looking for the code… Until I went back to Google, and then determined that there was an answer there… It popped up on the screen… It was so easy, it was hard… :-)
