The author of the #1 New York Times bestseller The FairTax Book offers a new look at the fast-growing populist tax reform movement that’s poised to become a key campaign issue for 2008

In 2005, firebrand radio talk show host Neal Boortz and Georgia congressman John Linder teamed up to create The FairTax Book, the first book devoted to the FairTax movement they had been promoting for years. Riding the growing groundswell of popular support for the tax reform measure, The FairTax Book became an overnight sensation.

As the election season heats up, Boortz and Linder return to add fuel to the fire with this radical follow-up. Talking back to the critics who have grossly misrepresented the simple principles behind the tax reform measure―which would abolish the IRS and replace it with a 23 percent retail sales tax on all new goods and services―Boortz and Linder:

• Debunk myths about the tax and answer critical charges―that it would bankrupt the economy, that it would leave poor people in the lurch, that the math doesn’t work

• Offer new insights into aspects of the plan not originally covered

• Show the American voter that there’s still hope of replacing our currently outdated, corrupt, and punitive income tax system with a simple plan that will revolutionize the way American pays for itself.

Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

In 2005, firebrand radio talk show host Neal Boortz and Georgia congressman John Linder created The FairTax Book, presenting the American public with a bold new plan designed to eliminate federal taxes and the IRS, jump-start the U.S. economy, bring back lost industries and jobs, and recapture billions of untaxed dollars hoarded by criminal and offshore businesses. Their book became an immediate #1 New York Times bestseller, propelling a powerful grassroots tax reform movement that's spreading like wildfire across our nation.

Now, three years later, the authors are back to answer the outspoken and misinformed critics of their innovative proposal. Offering eye-opening new insights not covered in the original book, FairTax: The Truth debunks the negative myths and gross misrepresentations of this groundbreaking idea. The FairTax plan is simple, brilliant, and it will work—enabling you to keep all the money in your paycheck; eliminating the fraud, hassle, and waste of our current system; and revolutionizing the way America pays for itself.

If you want to find a solution to fix the corrupt system centered in Washington, D.C., read this book and let Washington know there is a better way. Passing the FairTax (HR-15) is the one thing that will solve more problems than any other action congress would do, but why isn't anyone talking about it? The FairTax doesn’t tax income, but does tax spending on NEW goods and services at the retail level. The Sixteenth Amendment will be repealed. The IRS goes away and taxes are collected by the states and forwarded to the Federal Government. A few positive aspects are listed below.
1. Wage earners get their entire paycheck. No deductions for Federal Taxes, Social Security, or Medicare. There is NO INCOME TAX!
2. Business tax rates go to zero. Congress likes to tax corporations because too many people don't realize that business taxes are just passed on to their customers. Corporations don't pay taxes - they pass their taxes on to people in the form of higher cost of goods and services. A free market place will still regulate prices. Congress loses power to pick and choose winners and losers.
3. Lobbyists lose power to write our tax laws, while congress lose a source of income.
4. Congress likes to demigod that the Fair Tax is regressive (bad for the poor), but they don't understand the concept of a prebate, which make the Fair Tax progressive.

There are too many reasons for congress to fool the people into believing the Fair Tax is not good, but after we learn about it, Congress won't be able to continue the lies.

The American public needs this book to counter the various negative commentaries that seek to discredit H.R. 25, "The Fair Tax" Bill introduced by Congressmen John Linder. Few people realize that almost $15 million was invested over several years researching the impact of this simple and effective approach to funding the U.S. Government. Studied was the impact on various segments of the economy as well as individuals at all levels of income. It has the enthusiastic endorsement of a number of very well-known Economists, College Professors and Tax Code specialists throughout America, as well as sixty (60) co-sponsors in the Congress. Boortz and Linder point out the finer detail contained in the legislation that makes it a far superior taxing model than the present tax code, which contains thousands of pages, hundreds of tweaks and modifications so complex that even the IRS finds itself in disagreement on some of its intricacies. Billions of dollars are wasted each year by companies and individuals who are forced to pay for professional help to deal with their tax obligations. The authors point out the dozens of advantages of the Fair Tax to these as well as to the economy, generally. Legitimate questions and concerns are answered, while the outright lies and misrepresentations of those who oppose The Fair Tax are exposed as well. The reader is able to see clearly the true motivation behind the opposition, and it isn't pretty! This measure has the potential of rejuvenating our economy and creating a more prosperous America, but it will take a thoroughly educated public to get behind it and demand its enactment. "Fair Tax-The Truth" is an important work every American should read.

After reading this easy to read book, you will wonder why Congress hasn't adopted this tax system. I suppose it is because it is too easy (i.e., a consumption tax) and would not allow Congressional representatives to promise tax changes to get votes. The main things that I like about the "Fair Tax" is that it would be very difficult to be a tax cheater and it would generate a lot of new jobs because of no corporate/business tax. The main thing I dislike about it is the name; "Fair Tax" can always be quibbled with because someone will always think it is not FAIR!

Keep an open mind and see if you don't agree that making April 15th just another day, doesn't make a lot of sense. It would also significantly reduce the number of employees who would work for the IRS. (As a former IRS employee, I have personal experience that most taxpayers don't know how much tax they pay. And many believe that if they get a refund, they haven't paid any tax!)

From my perspective, I thought the FLAT TAX was a good alternative to the excuse we have today with gadzillion pages of Tax Code. After reading this book, I have decided that the "FairTax" may be the best alternative:

A. As a consumption tax, it provides me encouragement to save knowing there is no tax on my capital gains, dividends, and interest. My family wins!

B. With the PREBATE concept, the person with a low income gets a bargain with a rebate for essentials per person (wth a SSN) AND eliminates FICA and other punitive tax employment tax that hits the low wage earners the hardest. Good deal for low wage earners!

C. Eliminates government blame game from the continuous argument of political party in power from robbing the Social Security coffers. FICA no longer exists as a stand alone tax. Takes the government's hands out of my wallet!

D. Eliminating corporate taxes will make our USA products more competitive in the global market. That should result in more jobs here in the USA. More jobs means more money for the government. Maybe 22% can become 21%.

Personally, the argument of the FAIRTAX price of a product or service being lower or higher than under the existing tax system is somewhat moot since corporate taxes are based on profit, not the sales price. But if my takehome pay is 22% higher than today, I will gladly pay the 22% consumption tax to forego the time, effort, anxiety, and grief of filing a 1040 tax form every year.

PS: The repeal of the TAX Ammendment is a MUST, otherwise Congress will eventually become a double dipper, like my state which has BOTH an income tax and sales tax. :>(
