Product Description

This is my America, from my heart, and by my heart. I give it now to my children and grandchildren, and to yours, so they will always know what it was like in America when people were free.

Since the publication of her bestselling memoir, Going Rogue, in 2009, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has traveled the country extensively. She has visited cities and towns in almost every state, dropped in on military bases, given talks and speeches to small groups and at massive rallies. Throughout her travels, she has been privileged to meet thousands of Americans—ordinary men and women who have shared with her their hopes and dreams, their love of country, and their fears about what lies ahead. Governor Palin, inspired by these encounters, celebrates in her new book the enduring strengths and virtues that have made this country a beacon of liberty and hope for the rest of the world.

America by Heart is a highly personal testament to her deep love of country, her strong roots in faith, and her profound appreciation of family. Ranging widely over American history, culture, and current affairs, Governor Palin reflects on the key values that have been such an essential part of her own life and that continue to inform her vision of America’s future. The book also includes brief readings from classic and contemporary texts that have moved and inspired her, as well as portraits of Americans, both famous and obscure, whom she admires.

Informed by Palin’s own principles and deepest feelings, graced with intimate memories, this remarkable book gives us a close-up view of an extraordinary woman who is not afraid to speak out and defend the American values in which she so deeply believes.

From Booklist

If Palin’s first book, Going Rogue (2009), was about settling scores, this one is designed, as the subtitle implies, to show a thoughtful Sarah, albeit one strident in her beliefs. Pulling quotes from a dizzying array of Americans (Lincoln, Helen Keller, John Adams, Harriet Tubman, and even silent Calvin Coolidge), Palin wants readers to know that the U.S. is still the greatest country on earth—or would be if we could just rid ourselves of politicians like Barack Obama who don’t believe in American exceptionalism. (To make her point, she quotes Dash in the movie The Incredibles: if everyone is special, no one is.) Obama comes in for his fair share of shots, which makes this seem like the opening salvo in the 2012 campaign, but in its entirety, it’s more about Palin’s observations on the culture wars, often with a political subtext. Throughout, she seems lacking in a useful kind of ammo: irony. She derides American Idol for promoting talentless kids (while her daughter, Bristol, hoofs past her shelf life on Dancing with the so-called Stars). She extols the way Mr. Smith Goes to Washington depicts a senatorial filibuster, yet her own party, during the Obama administration, has debased the filibuster to a point where the Senate now shuns debate and avoids legislating. She celebrates the fight for Alaskan statehood, though her husband was a member of a secessionist party. But if irony isn’t Palin’s strong suit, sticking to her guns is: virtually every anecdote or reflection connects somehow to the themes of love of family and/or country (or, to be more precise, Palin’s view of those virtues). This book won’t make any new fans for the former governor, but it probably won’t add to “the haters” (Bristol’s term for those who deride her dancing), either. Proponents will see her as the strong, savvy Mama Grizzly, and detractors will find her to be simplistic and, in the words she used to describe those American Idol no-talents, “self-esteem enhanced.” --Ilene Cooper

Sarah Palin grew up in Alaska towns, from Skagway to Wasilla to Anchorage, while her dad taught science and coached high school sports. She and her future husband, Todd Palin, graduated from Wasilla High School in 1982, and she went on to earn her college degree from the School of Journalism at the University of Idaho. Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council, then two terms as the city's mayor and manager, and was elected by her peers as president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. She then chaired the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, and the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission. Palin was elected Alaska's youngest, and first female, governor, serving from 2006 to 2009. While serving her state she was tapped as Senator John McCain's running mate in 2008, becoming the first female Republican vice presidential candidate in our nation's history.

The Palins reside in Wasilla with their five children, including a son in the U.S. Army, and one grandson. They enjoy an extended family throughout Alaska and the Lower 48.

Just finished the book.......

The book is as I expected it. It is a easy read that flows nicely and covers a wide range of issues. If you are a Sarah fan you will love it and it will confirm the reasons you like Sarah in the first place. If you are a hater of Sarah you will not change your mind from this book. You are blinded by hatred and I find it hard to believe that you will actually take time to read it. Your mind is made up and nothing she can write can change that.. The beauty of this book is for the people who are smart enough to realize that Sarah is not the idiot the left (media) is trying to make her out to be. She is a mother who has 5 children and actually lives in the real America. She talks about the disappointments in her life and the trials and tribulations of being a mother (which millions of Americans can relate to) and she wraps it up with the unyielding view that America is still a great place and the future is bright for all of us.

She writes a lot about faith and how it is still a factor in todays world. She doesn't push a particular faith but believes that the word faith is not a dirty word like the media would have you believe...... "Freedom of religion doesn't mean Freedom from religion".. Sarah is not some religious zealot trying to get you to church, but having some kind of faith in a higher power is a good thing...

I don't know if I want Sarah to be my President... I don't think this book will convince you of that nor is that the books intent. But it will make you feel good about America and give you a good civics lesson in the process. Sarah is a player and will be on the national stage for a long time and her voice needs to be heard. This book is a great read for anyone who loves this country.

I think it fair to say I am an intellectual and a bookish man. I am a teacher. I have, in point of fact, read Mrs. Palin's book and found it well done and engaging. Yes, I have bought it and read it. I plan on reading it again very soon. I have even translated parts of it for interested foreign audiences.

Contrary to negative reviewers who have tried to stack the deck against Sarah Palin with phony reviews so as to lower her point total , my honest opinion is that Mrs Palin's bookis honest and sincere, and very enjoyable.

It helps to get a real feeling for her as a person, and as a potential candidate for high office.

I don't know what her future will be but I know she will be a powerhouse in Republican politics and at the very least a kingmaker.

Some people are obviously suffering from Sara Palin derangement syndrome. I have seen more of that with an avalanche of personal attacks on me just because I enjoyed the book.

I suppose some people are not literate enough to know "phoney" (sic) and "phony" are both correct spellings. I suppose some people filled with the totalitarian temptation of the left cannot understand that liberals can be illiberal. Many are.

Phoney illiberal liberals continue with unfounded ad hominem attacks not able to resist saying that Ronald Reagan one of our greatest modern presidents is just "an idiot". Once again an unsubstantiated ad hominem attack which says very little except about its author.

But I am not interested in their rants and will not respond to them.

However, I agree with other reviewers.

Vile personal attacks will only create more Palin supporters every day.

There is no question about that in my mind. Carry on, Mrs. Palin.

Remember they said Mr. Reagan and Mr. Lincoln were "idiots" and "fools" too.

Sarah Palin is the happy warrior that takes on the Left in her book "America by Heart". This book leaves no doubt to where Sarah Palin stands on issues. She believes the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are defining documents. The Constitution is the wall that separates freedom from tyranny.

Early in the book, she defines the three words 'We The People' that makes our Constitution unique from those in other countries especially the Soviet Union. She quotes Ronald Reagan, "Well, the difference is so small that it almost escapes you...In those other constitutions, the Government tells the people of these countries what they're allowed to do. In our Constitution, we the people tell the Government what it can do, and it can do only those things listed in that document and no others".

She takes Obama to task when he complained about the constraints on government created by our Constitution. Obama expressed regret that the Supreme Court in the 1950's and '60s, during the civil rights movement did not go far enough. The courts never ventured into issues of wealth redistribution and more basic issues of political and economic justice to society. Obama says, "The Warren Court, it wasn't that radical. It didn't break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution, as least as it has been interpreted, and the Warren Court interpreted it the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can't do to you. Says what the federal government can't do to you". This statement begs the question. Do you want a government to have the power to confiscate the fruits of your labor whenever it becomes politically expedient?

President Obama has says, "In the really difficult, consequential cases, justices shouldn't go with law but with their hearts. "The last mile can only be determined on the basis of one's deepest values, one's core concerns, one broader perspective on how the world works, and depth and breadth of one's empathy". Sarah Palin quotes the oath that is administered to federal judges in her book and concludes that progressives want Supreme Court justices to violate their oath of office.

The Chapter entitled 'Rise of Mama Grizzles' outlines the differences between Sarah Palin's Mama Grizzles and the contemporary women's movement. Discover why women were given the right to vote in Wyoming and Territorial Alaska many years before women gained these rights throughout America.

Sarah Palin addresses how Christians are losing their rights to religious expression. Read about the Mojava Cross which has become 'the cross in the box'. Sarah quotes the prayer of Franklin Roosevelt that according to some was the largest mass prayer of all times. It is estimated that a national radio audience of one hundred million people heard this prayer. This is remarkable since the population of America at that time was approximately one hundred and fifty million people. Sarah has good words to say about Mitt Romney's religious beliefs which she compares to others like Nancy Pelosi, Edward Kennedy and John Kerry.

Quoting Sarah Palin, "The reason, I think, it that we have leaders today in Washington who don't share the fundamental view of American greatness. I thought of this disconnect recently when I was watching the Blue Angels at the Alaska Air Show at Elmendorf Air Force Base. There I was brought to tears by the magnificence of these amazing aviators when my brother, knowing what I was thinking, handed me a note. Scribbled in black Sharpie on the back of his entrance ticket was the message. "I'd rather have an army of sheep led by a lion than an army of lions led by a sheep"."

Robert Eugene Simmons writes, "The brutal reality of America is that an aristocracy has developed in Washington against the wishes of the founders of this country. The Republicans Party "insiders" are just as deep in the corruption and aristocratic thinking as the liberal elites. If anyone ever needed convincing of the deep disregard in which the aristocracy holds the 'serfs or ordinary Americans', the insiders reaction to the Tea Party movement answers the questions". Sarah Palin addresses these issues and more in her book. "America by Heart, Reflections on Family, Faith and Flag" is a must read to everyone who wishes to gain a different prospective to important issues of our times.

Man muss ihre Philosophie nicht immer lieben, aber Sie als vollkommene Idiotin darzustellen, ist nach ihren zwei Buechern einfach falsch und oberflaechlich.
