Thoroughly updated to reflect the most recent developments, the Third Edition of American Foreign Policy addresses with unmatched authority the most pressing foreign policy issues of this new global era: how should the United States wield its power, pursue peace, be true to its principles, and work with the international community?

American Foreign Policy helps students approach these issues by applying a consistent critical framework throughout the text, emphasizing both the strategic and political aspects of foreign policy decision-making. With new readings and pedagogy in the text and a new Web site for study and review, the Third Edition is an unparalleled introduction to U.S. foreign policy amidst the challenges of terrorism, the war in Iraq, the Darfur crisis, globalization, democratization, and other timely issues.

I have several older versions as well but jentleson's updates are worth the newer version. There sidebars of information are really informative and give nice insights and the online connections to read and do more are worth the time and trouble. Well laid out for easy on the eyes reading and easy to highlight and mark. A keeper for my library

Confused with American Foreign Policy? Start here. I had to read this for a class, it is well written, easily understood, gets to the point, is backed with evidence and history.

I was amazed at how great the condition of this book was. It practically looked brand new when I took it out of the box. The pages weren't even marked, which I was happy about. Delivery was earlier than the actual expected arrival date, so I was happy about that. Thanks! :)

This is a good book but it has just to much information for a one semester class. If you want to read it for personal learning, awesome but if you are considering having it as your required reading for a 4 month semester class please don't do that to yourself or your students. My professor said yesterday that he regrets getting it, so do we. It is just to much information.

i enjoyed the fact that we can learn foreign policy fundamentals from an expert whose writing style flows like a novelist, instead of the dry old textbook form assigned to so many courses. his son adam id also in possesion of a progressive yet historiacally rooted mind :). great book.

This is a textbook and for the serious student of American Foreign Policy---but there is none better and I have used it in the classroom since its first edition.

Go read Kissinger's On Diplomacy, a biography on Ronald Reagan instead, it will be more informative. I purchased this to study for the FSOT as it is recommended, and it will guaranteed get you a good score, because it's a bunch of PC cookie cutter nonsense that is pretty much a blueprint for how to ensure your national security is jeopardized mascarading as useful advice/information for young politically career oriented individuals. If it's part of your foreign policy class, you need to be aware that this book is a product of Obama era academia and there are many better choices that will teach you more about foreign policy for a future career.
