I grew up in a liberal, open-minded place with a large Jewish population, in fact I am also Jewish. I am very serious when I say that every year of my life (from middle school to university) has involved Holocaust education. I have also been to Israel and visited Yad Vashem.
Considering the extensive education I have had on the Holocaust, it is always very intriguing to learn more. Frankly, a lot of the specific legislation and speeches discussed in this book were new to me. Dawidowicz does a fantastic job of presenting this difficult material in such a way that it is not a purely academic read.
Whether you're taking a class on the Holocaust, or you simply wish to learn more about the disgusting and despicable events that transpired in Germany and Europe under Nazi rule, I seriously recommend that you buy this.
I would actually go as far to say that every person should have this book.
B'hatzlacha.
I absolutely agree that the Jewish people have every right to be incensed to their eternal souls about Hitler's actions. I agree with the factuality and the premise of the book. I agree with the author's anger. I agree it should never be forgotten. There is nothing I don't agree with in the book. I have read scores of book about the Holocaust from historians and survivors. I have wept openly while reading of these atrocities. I have seen newsreels , actual footage, photos, etc.
I just felt I was being yelled at. So, if you can get past the yelling, the book is excellent and would deserve 5 stars.
Thank you Ms Dawidowicz for giving me facts.
