Empire, Racism and Genocide: A History of U.S. Foreign Policy Paperback – November 27, 2013
Purchase options and add-ons
In its entire history, there has been very little time when the United States has been at peace. As it wages its many wars and ‘interventions’, the stated goal is always something few people could argue with: fostering democracy when a struggling people are resisting tyranny, removing threats to U.S. security, or punishing a cruel dictator for unspeakable misdeeds.
Yet on closer scrutiny, these reasons are seldom valid. They simply hide the true purposes of U.S. military involvement, which are power and wealth. Starting with the barbarous destruction of Native American culture in order to gain farmlands, right through to the Iraqi invasion for oil, money and power have always motivated U.S. foreign policy decisions. Dictators with appalling records of human rights violations are upheld by the U.S. if they agree to whatever economic or strategic demands the U.S. makes. Conversely, democratically elected leaders are overthrown if they don’t.
Empire, Racism & Genocide: A History of U.S. Foreign Policy looks at U.S. history from shortly before the American Revolution, up to the present time, and details the U.S. government’s true motivations for its ongoing, deadly war machine.
“Having already published the most insightful and well-researched study we have of U.S. military desertion, and a powerful novel dramatizing the tragedy of participation in a U.S. war, Robert Fantina now brings us a comprehensive survey of the history of U.S. war-making. This new book is as clear-eyed and unflinching as Fantina’s others. It belongs in our classrooms and perhaps our doctors’ offices, where it might be prescribed as a cure for television viewing.” — David Swanson, best-selling author of War Is A Lie and other books
“We were sent to Iraq in 2003 and one of the tasks my unit had to search for the chem/bio weapons we were told were there. Everywhere we went, we found nothing. Sure, there were lots of standard munitions in warehouses and other places. But they were not my concern. I wasn’t worried about them. Then we were tasked to guard oil wells along the route we were taking as we made our way north. We harassed a lot people who were doing nothing to us.
“Empire, Racism & Genocide: A History of U.S. Foreign Policy tells the true story of why the U.S. has been at war almost constantly from its inception to the present time. Lies I was told about the reasons for invading Iraq were only revisions of lies that had been told to soldiers and the citizenry from the War of 1812, through Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq and every other imperial misadventure the United States started. Additionally, the dehumanizing aspects of the U.S. military, from the time a soldier enters basic training to the time they leave service, are detailed. The book is an important addition to any realistic study of U.S. foreign policy.” — Kevin Benderman, 10-year veteran, war resister, peace activist

- Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2014When it came to reading about certain events within the history of the United States, a number of dark truths are often ignored in favor of a subjective viewpoint that justifies them. While this work highlights the ugliness hidden behind the scenes of such events, it also exemplifies the traits of greed and power influencing these events with unprecedented consequences.
One element that chills me is the claim of a divine mandate for the agendas of others and how gullible people buy into it while never putting what they hear under the scrutiny of academic analysis.
While I normally don’t read documentaries, this is one that drew me to see historical events from all views plus on how history being written by the victors can omit details beyond the mere line of dishonesty. This work is an eyeopener, which I recommend for all to see how history can be manipulated and the facts skewed to suit agendas.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2015Overall an interesting book that like its title takes a hard look at how imperialism has driven much of US foreign policy. However, trying to fit the entire scope of foreign policy from Washington to Obama in about 300 pages leaves much to be desired. Instead of digging deep into topics, its more like a brief look at US foreign policy. There are also several spelling and grammar mistakes, which I don't know if it was the Kindle edition or poor editing by the publishing house (I was a bit annoying at times). Overall, a good read if you want a brief look at the relationship between empire and foreign policy, if you want something deep this is not what your looking for.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2015Fantina wrote a short history of U.S.Foreign Policy not intended to be a complete survey. He reports the untold conduct and consequences of the unbridled use of U.S. military and diplomatic power, and the facades used to move the U.S. public to support it. We need this book to balance the self-adulation that permeates our mass media and political speeches. Those who want more can use the generous bibliography and specific sources referenced. U.S. voters will be moved to pay more attention to what the U.S. does to other countries. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Nostra maxima culpa.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2015Outrageous and ridiculous! I cannot believe that this book was given the green light for publication!! I guess this means that everyone can become a published author regardless of what spews out of their mouth! Cited as saying,"a powerful novel dramatizing the tragedy of participation in a U.S. war,..." What poor bastard really believes that answering the call of duty is a "tragedy"! This is complete BULLS***! I proudly served our great country with honor and by putting boot to ass on innumerable occasions. My actions were never coerced. I have a clear conscience so stop trying to guilt me into feeling ashamed of my participation in a U.S. backed war!! COWARDS WHO HIDE BEHIND WORDS AND QUESTIONABLE PREMISES!

It seems American Imperialism is real....
CarlReviewed in the United Kingdom on December 16, 20135.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Summary
This book is a short read and moves very fast through history, but provides a good brief overview of the aggressive foreign policy of the USA, and how far this reality is from the lies and illusions promulgated by flag waving media sources and social conventions.
There never was anything special or different about the USA, other than their ability to hide from the population the fact that it was simply another colonial power, run by the powerful for the benefit of themselves and their agenda.
