About the Author

Stan Reimer is an enterprise infrastructure architect who specializes in enterprise directory services and Active Directory. As a Corporate Technology Specialist for Great West Life Assurance Company, he helps design and deploy directory services for eBusiness.

Mike Mulcare is an instructional design engineer for training and certification at Microsoft Corporation, where he dedicates his time to courseware for directory services and Windows Server. He has been a Microsoft Certified Trainer since 1997. Prior to joining Microsoft, Mike developed Microsoft Windows® 2000 courseware for IBM Learning Services and has also worked as a technology consultant in the legal industry, specializing in system deployment and migration.

Excellent levels of detail

The Windows Server 2008 Resource kit has tremendous ammounts of detail into how the difference aspects of Windows actually works. This is a great way to study for the MCITP exams when used in conjunction with the Training Kits for each exam. If you really want to get to know Windows Server 2008, this is the product to buy. Amazon has this product for so much less than the retail price and unless you buy it used, you won't find it cheaper anywhere. The CD includes a wealth of information, scripts, templates and even a PDF copy of each book. There is also a PDF copy of two more books and several chapters from several other books. The value is unmatched.

Helpful but falls short

Like Brian said this is not a very detailed book and most of what I have read so far is right off the Technet sight. I don't like the fact that it refers you to Technet over and over again. One of the reasons I bought the book was due to the LACK of detailed information on Technet in the area I am currently working on which is AD LDS in 2008 server. I assumed since this is a Resource Kit book it would be more detailed.
It is not a total loss however as it has helped me get a little closer to understanding what I am doing with my LDAP project.
I guess if you want a book that does give you more information than some of the bigger books on Server 2008 on AD then it's worth the read. I would really like to see a in-depth book with real life examples on AD and AD LDS. Most of the books I have been looking at on Safari lack details as well. To much "general" information and not enough meat.

the books were amazing and also comes with full entire PDFs versions too, its excellent if you have an ipad
and not charge the books in your hand, it looks much more easier to carry

thanks a lot amazon

it's a great resource of information, but you have to buy the study guides (--2nd edition of MCITP SELF PACED TRAINING KIT BOOKS-- in conjuction with this resource

REMEMBER, its has to be 2nd Edition because its based on WIN SERVER 2008 R2, R2, its the current version, and so on, you need to stay current with the study guides

Another thing, this books (THE RESOURCE KIT), will not get you pass any exam its has all the information that the study guides does't have

think it like this:

lets Define the word CLASS to any Microsoft Cert. you want

The RESOURCE KIT BOOKS = (equals)TO the CLASS (you are taken ALL THE DEEP INFORMATION)
And The Training KIT BOOKS = (equals) TO a study guide for the (Class's exam you taken)
